I put the boot back on the car today, but not before I drilled it full of holes with a couple of holes saws. All this effort saved me about 500g, so I would recommend against wasting the time.
I took pics, but the card won't read at the moment so they'll be posted later.
I also took the car over the weigh bridge on the way to the port facility. It is used to weigh road trains, so I am not sure as to its accuracy. Anyway, the car weighs 1.42 tonnes according to the weighbridge screen. The receipt printer was out of service.
So 1420kg with 25L fuel on board. I was hoping for something more like 1400kg flat or less. At least I now know what it weighs.
