Been a productive week. I used the bonnet moulds I got from Andrew to make a standard bonnet inner and outer.

Then I made a mould of the vent on my steel bonnet.

Had a little bit of drama because just after I laid on the gel coat I looked across the bonnet and saw the PVA mould release that I should have put on first. Sacrificed a few layers of paint on the steel bonnet to save the mould. Just means more work if I was going to sell the steel bonnet complete with vent.

Then I made carbon vent from the mould. Unfortunately I ran out of hardener, and after ringing around I found a boat shop open on Saturday afternoon that had it in stock. The vent was then cut into the bonnet, and bonded with sikaflex 252. After a bit of faffing around trying different positions and procrastinating on if the vent should be slapped on top, or bonded underneath and poking through the bonnet I decided to go the nicer looking poke through method. Much more work though...

Then made up some steel brackets with captive nuts for the hinges to bolt to.

Finally bonded the two halves together, once again giving it 300grams of Sikaflex's finest 252. (if anyone knows where to buy the black 252 cheap let me know. Autobarn has it at $36 a cartridge. Bunnings has it for $28, but only in white). Car looks like a porcupine...
