Andrew sent me a link for a bunch of carbon bits advertised on My105.com. I was in the process of installing my new oil cooler and figuring out the plumbing and ducting. Whilst I settled on a sheet metal inlet duct from the bumper, I decided to make my own carbon exhaust duct. (mainly because it was too complex to make out of ally)

Completely made out of offcuts and leftover/salvaged materials it has not cost me a cent if you do not count the 200mls of resin needed. Not too sure if the 'mould' will survive the demoulding process, but at the end of the day I shouldn't be needing it again.

The mould is a piece of polyurethane foam shaped with a knife and sureform plane, some paper cups, all covered in aluminium duct tape. (The resin does not stick to the ally tape). This was taped down to a sheet of ally to form the flange.

I kept it simple and just used a wet layup, sort of like expensive paper mache. The carbon is all offcuts from other jobs. I keep all the offcuts for little jobs like this one, and for repairs. No care was given for appearance, as it will be tucked up under the guard and only the really curious will see it. Was fun to get the gear out again though, but now I have a slight headache- should have worn a respirator.
