Theft is rare in countries which don't, too.

I can understand peoples' anger when their cars and homes are violated by theft- it's happened to me, too, although not recently. Such anger gives rise to suggestions that practices like those in Saudi Arabia "work" to prevent such crimes (and they may well do- at the expense of living a fulfilling life, and the presence of crimes we don't have, or the punishment for "crimes" such as fornication which we consider laughable). It would be laughable if so many people (especially women, in Iran) weren't being barbarically punished for nothing.
