Dirt and tarmac for a wheel each is the simplest test to confirm LSD -- a bit of traction for each wheel but much more for one of them.

When you confirm LSD, it looks like you need to try Blake's test as best you can to find out if it is Torsen or mechanical.

The only other convincing way that I know to find out which type is to have a look at the innards.
