Donuts in the dry are no more an answer than the tests you did or proposed, James. Take Daniel's advice, or if you really want to try an indirect method then stick one rear wheel on something slippery (e.g. wet grass) and the other on bitumen and accelerate. Jacking it up is useful only if your next step is to remove the back plate on the diff. Any test involving rotating one wheel against the other is derived from somebody's ignorance, as are all possible burnout methods.
