Update: okay so the battery was flat today, I started the car up and heard the pump! however it seemed it was just trying to pump up the front left strut, as I used a test lamp on the diagnostic plug in the boot and that was the only solenoid that lit up the test lamp, despite the front right also being low..
However after a while the pump stopped with the strut still low, and I turned the car off and back on which I then couldn't hear the pump again.
the suspension fuse in the engine fusebox is okay, I haven't checked the one near the kick panel yet....
I'm running out of ideas now. Someone help my beloved UZ31 ):
