Last time that happened to me I used a pair of vicegrips to grab the thread above the nut to stop it from turning, then was able to loosen the nut.

Sure, this will stuff up the thread and render the tierod near unusable, but chances are that if it turns then its stuff.

Try Kevs method, then try a soaking of CRC/WD40, and finally hitting things with a hammer.

Use the vicegrips as the last resort.
