the Toyota service interval is 160k, I'm not sure where this 100k thing came from, Taxi maybe.

Why would being a taxi matter, if anything, the belt would be in better condition due to less passage of time.

Edit: Also I just don't really get why anyone would err anywhere except the safe side. It's not like you're even SAVING the 60 dollars, you're still going to have to spend it. Unless you extended it double.

Edit2: I've just double checked - neither the 1jz nor the 1uz or the 2jz seem to be interference engines. So, overall i guess there's not much damage you could do. But I'm not sure how well a boosted engine will handle when valves are opening and closing at random when the belt goes.

But overall you might be pretty safe compared to a lot of alternative cars. If you manage it yourself, and you desperately need that 60 dollars, just keep an eye on the belt. Should be servicing the car either way quite regularly so just make sure it looks in good condition.

I personally will stick to the schedule I didn't buy the soarer to be a cheap car. I bought it for it's features. I knew the upkeep and 60 dollars is a less than half a tank of fuel.
