I had the oil and filter changed about 9 months ago but can't remember what grade of oil I used at the time (it would have been whatever was recommended)but about a month ago I found the oil getting a bit low and rather than change the oil and filter again (the car had been left unused for 6 months while I was overseas)I simply topped up using Castrol GTX 20/50. At the same time I shoved a bottle of 'no more leaks' or 'stop leak' or something in. The instructions said it should stop the smoking within 14 days but in fact the smoking got worse. If changing the oil again will result in the smoke reducing, then I'll do it but I need to know it'll have a good effect (so I don't waste my money and don't make the current problem even worse). I noticed yesterday afternoon that after the car sitting adling for a couple of minutes (while I waited to pull out into traffic) as I accelerated up a particularly steep hill, there was quite a lot of smoke coming out (enough for me to worry about the boys in blue pulling me over) but about an hour later I went back up the same hill and there was no noticable smok.
