I did a search but was unable to find the part #
I have been trying to find this damm leak for weeks and it has been driving me mad, today I found the #$%^%$#..... It is the "O" ring behind the pump hose fitting.

I need the part number for the "o" ring for the lower fluid hose from the power steering fluid bottle to the pump. The "O" ring is located behind a fitting bolted to the pump. I also need the number for the hose.
Thanks if anyone can help

speaking of which, I topped my power steering reservoir up 2 weeks ago to stop this groaning feedback through the steering and now it looks like its returning again.
Don, would you suggest I have other problems (like Craigs)or would it simply be air from the first time making its way through the system again ?

It's possible you've got a leak Adam, but it's probably a teensy one if it's taken a couple of weeks to rematerialise so to speak.

Have a close look at the top of the pump (where Craig's was leaking, plus the usual hose connection points.

Also check the high pressure idle up vacuum switch on the PS pump high pressure outlet. The diaphragm can go leaky and PS fluid is slowly sucked into the inlet manifold. Common symptoms are disappearing PS fluid and a bit of blue smoke when the engine is first started in the morning. If there is PS fluid wetting the inside of either vacuum hose attached to the switch it is cactus. You can either replace it with a new one (around $150 plus labour) or as some have done in the past put a brass bung in its place with some thread tape and block off the vacuum hoses until you want to fix it properly. Its purpose is to compensate for high power steering loads while parking by passing some additional air to the inlet manifold but the engine ECU will normally compensate enough if you disable the switch.

OK well I checked under the car thismorning - after topping it up last nite and leaving it rest and yes my suspicions were correct. I think there is a leak in it and you were correct Peter. Problem is now how to fix it and where do i look..

Hmm, if it's a V8, get it looked at ASAP as it'll most likely be destroying your alternator.

Are V8 and the TT power steering reservoir / pump compatible with each other?

OK I high pressure cleaned under the hood tonite and made everything oil free. Hopefully tomorrow I will be able to see where the leak is coming from. Ive lost about 50ml in 3 days of topping it up. I have a feeling it is the hoses tho. I can see some oil seeping thru.

OK I checked it thismorning and i see 3 stress fractures in the hose connecting the reservoir to the pump. Hopefully i can replace that and get new clamps to fix the problem.

Where can I get that hose from ?

OK Don I had a good look at it today and under the car and OMG there is oil EVERYWHERE!!!!
Its like dripping a the laundry tap.
However i think its actually the power steering pump - because there is lots of fresh oil all around it. The hose as suggested is fine.

After reading up on the planet soarer site i have a feeling i have blown a seal and oil is gushing out of that little hole on the pump.

Im trying to get it looked at tomorrow - before the alternator blows itself up from drowning in oil!

How can this happen so suddenly ?

Fair bit of pressure going on in there. Or if you mean how can the alternator get stuffed so quickly, I think the PS fluid attracts a lot of dust and grit and this is what wrecks your alternator. I think it'd be a good idea to get it out and get an auto electrician to service it while you are at it.

I have been told i need a new PS kit with new seals etc and that driving it any further will cause more damage - hence a blown alternator.
I have been quoted just over $400 to have it all fixed ..

Don't forget when you do the pump to replace the "O" ring that started this thread. It's not in the kit so you have to order it as well.
Follow the details on the PlanetSoarer site and you can't go wrong.
You have to drop the alternator to make it easy to get to the pump lower mounting bolts so it's up to you if you want to get it checked/cleaned/repaired at the same time.

The bearing isn't in the kit, worth doing, available from bearing shops.

I read that the P/S fluid eats the insulation on the windings in the alternator or something like that.

Is it possible to have a small crack in the power steering reservoir, at the bottom. I've notices oil sitting at the base of the PS reservoir. I've checked the hoses and they seem ok. Could it be coming from somewhere else ?

Adam, he is referring to the reservoir, not the pump, though it's possible that fluid could still get into the alternator maybe.
