What's the difference between the 2? Obviously it's a later model and probably has some more functions built into it, but ultimately if I just want to get the "richness" out of my mixture, they would both do the same thing wouldn't they?
In this type of scenario, i.e. just to stop wasting fuel on boost (and that overly rich smell on startup) the SAFC I would do the trick wouldn't it?

SAFC2 has more RPM points you can set, hence a smoother adjustment curve.
Forgive my ignorance but what how much of a difference would it make if I just wanted to stop the fuel waste? I'm not interested in additional power (the car is fine how it is).

You can only really change the open loop section of the fuel map as any adjustment made in closed loop (light throttle, low to mid rev range) will be adjusted out by the learning function of the ECU.
This means you will not get any better fuel economy when cruising, or at anything much less than WOT. On the other hand, it should stop the plume of black smoke from emanating out the rear of the car when the pedal is mashed to the floor, so you will save some fuel if you are always fanging it.
I'm not sure what point the 1JZ's change between closed and open loop, but I'm sure someone on here would know.

You can alter ignition timing with most piggybacks as long as you don't cause engine knock, as the computer has no way of monitoring timing. You can get better response/fuel economy through this.
Unless you remove all the closed-loop sensors (oxygen sensors, knock sensors), which will cause fault codes and take some time to settle, then you can't really get around the factory ECU function of altering fueling below full throttle, and below a certain rev-range. You can still tune for top-end and full throttle. This should reduce the plume of black smoke that a lot of the TT's put out when the pedal is floored.
The SAFC will only do fuelling. eManage will do fuel and ignition timing with the relevant harnesses (~$400-450 second hand, $550-600 new). The eManage Ultimate ($800 new) will do all of the above plus speed cut defender, boost cut defender, and one or two other functions. Unichip will do fuel and ignition timing. SMT6 will do the same as a Unichip. Same applies for closed-loop fuel for all.

Cheers for that Tim, i don't think i will fit one now.
I were only going to use it to try and increase economy and hopefully pick up a little performance, but it sounds like the costs are greater than the benefits.

if you want economy then dont drive so hard. mate drives his like a granny and gets 600km to a tank. save your thousand bucks and just drive it softly and putt it around. your not really going to get your moneys worth out of it by butting a ecu in.
my 2 cents anyways. ill be running a neo on my 1j soon so ill let yas know how it goes
