Dyno tune next week :-)

Currently done headers, no cats, 2.25" exhaust on the 3UZ, otherwise stock running nice oil and 98 RON.

Using an Apexi Neo AFC to tweak the air fuel signal, so we shall see how it goes!

Hopefully around 170-180rwkw would be in the ballpark but we shall see.

Going over a 2.25" in size will give you less power in most instances, All sorts of variations have been tried before, Dyno results show the story.

yeah that is why it's 2.25" Same size as what 4.2 V8 Audi RS4s used, they must know something.

I've never liked going too big with exhaust diameters.

Sized according to the flow needed. If you are going forced induction then you may need bigger. I'm surprised the 3uz is that much quicker. I'm thinking about a crown with either the 1uz vvti or 3uz. I think the vvti 1uz is about on par with the 3uz. Just wondering does it sound any different to the 1uz all other things being equal?

It's a pretty grunty motor, you'd hope so with an extra 50hp and 80nm, considerably lower in the rev range, the 6 speed auto really helps too, the 4 speeds really dull the cars off the line.

Yeah there is a much different intake noise, more modern sounding, exhaust much the same though.

Old video with stock exhaust back in late 2016 just after finishing the conversion. This was with the 5 speed auto, before I change it a year later to the 6 speed auto along with the ECU, required some repining of the ECU and new type Knock sensors.

Installed an Apexi Neo AFC to dial in some fuel corrections today.

Making good power before the tune, peak of 177rwkw, but the low end was a bit poor so the tuner put in some more fuel down low and got a decent 10rwkw gain through most of the low to mid range! Now with a peak of 178.1 rwkw, so very pleased. Certainly pulls well in the lower rpm band.

Old 5 speed was the A650e, V8 spec one. Slightly weaker version also used behind some 2JZ-GE VVTi cars.

Currently have the 2004+ A761e 6 speed auto that was used in a lot of Lexus Toyota models up to only a few years ago.

I decided to get some air intake temperature readings. Mounted 3 sensors in different places, front bumper, front of air filter, and behind the air box. These ran back to a handy little digital readout, and could be switched between each sensor I wanted to read. Powered the unit with a 12v cig plug and ran the wires to the engine bay.

Results were quite fascinating, when on the move, temperatures at the face of the air filter are quite good, but as soon as that air flow stops they skyrocket, nearly matching the hot ambient temperature of the engine bay.

Next I'll look at devising ways to shield the air filter from the hot engine bay temperatures, no doubt my open face airbox with no top shield is not helping matters here.

See table below for temperatures.

Very interesting Mike, i cut the front of air box same as you (what a great sound) and then boxed in and insulated all the way down to front bar , but i suppose there would be still some heat sink on the air box though .

Yeah definitely need to do that too. I made a start but used thermo plastic that lost its shape around Xmas, so pulled it all out again, havent got around to finding better materials, but I need to get on to it

At least I have some data to go by.

Still, it's not as bad as the heat soak temperature show.

Once on the move the actual ECU IAT is reading 25-30 degrees in most conditions, but it does climb into the 50+ range if you just sit stationary, which makes sense.

Yes haha, I do everything.

Although the subframe was supposed to be just blasted, I was going to paint it, but the guy my dad took it to painted it anyway, did a nice job so saved me doing it!

I've kinda come full circle from other car projects where I did everything so it's fun finally doing all the things I've wanted to on a Soarer.

Pain in the ass kinda job, but better to do it than not.

Most of the rear bushes aren't too bad from my findings, they just get harder I guess, but as a collective a set of new bushes would make a difference. (Front bushes seem to really get all the flogging)

We shall find out soon!
