After 5 hours of searching around Goulburn for some long enough 12x1.25mm bolts to mount it... the block is finally on a stand... haha
Will start inspecting and cleaning and prepping for assembly as parts come in.

Yeah its crazy. Up to 70mm was fine... anything above just.. 1.75 thread and rolled too so cant chop it off and tap own thread. Contemplated welding a thread onto a longer bolt....
Here is a pic with it uncovered. Ill have to prepare alot of the surfaces and use some elbow grease to clean it all up.

Ok so got the engine home so i can work on it after work. Some parts have arrived including a new genuine modified high flow oil pump, a ross tuffbond racing balancer, cometic head gaskets, arp head studs, another starter as my old one needed a rebuild. Looking at either a 1mz camry or a goleby 2jz alternator pulley as slightly larger to underdrive the alternator to hopefully prolong it as long as possible from high rpm.
Umm looking at some kelford turbo cams for it either in a 264 as the kelfords out of the old engine arent in the best order and are a bit aggressive for a turbo.
Really want to dry sump this big girl but unless i can find or make some parts on the cheap ill have to put that idea on hold and focus on getting the rest of the engine together.
Here is a couple more pics

Unfortunately noticed that 1mm head gaskets came for the build. Contacted goleby's and they have tracked down some 1.3mm cometic gaskets last pair in aus apparently. So will be sending the 1mm ones back.
Started to cc the combustion chambers so i can get an accurate measurement on what the compression tatio should turn out to be. Ill have to make a round section of perspex to sit down on piston to try get an accurate reading of the cutout as the piston sits about 1mm under the deck. I will probably take a measurement off the deck aswell to try confirm measurements etc. Was hoping to get all that done today but got called away to help a mate figure out an overheating 2014 dmax... quite rare... let alone with less than 80k on the clock and always serviced as per schedule. ill add a pic of the final verdict but he had replaced water pump thermostat and coolant again. I got him to replace the viscous hub as it had failed. Still overheated going up the mountain.. today bit the bullet in its either radiator or egr or head... found this....

Anyway. Found all 8 combustion chambers are exactly 40.2cc. Only mention of someone measuring i can find is on lextreme and said he measured a completely stock unshaved head at 43cc. So a bit has been taken off of the head. If it becomes too much i may have to skim some metal off the head to bring it back down.
Time, measuring and maths will tell.

Which heads are you measuring?

That rad looks nasty! We had the tank pop off our BMW in the Netherlands, and it was immediately obvious that there was a catastrophic component failure, steam, master alarms, temp guage off the scale ...

They are the leftovers of the dead engine. So with all the measurements seems to come up with the compression ratio with 1.3mm head gaskets will be 8.48:1 and with 1mm head gasket will be 8.69:1
So the lower comp pistons are still putting the compression ratios to about what they should be. Meaning less has been shaved off heads than i thought which means they will be more than usable for the build.
Have started cleaning up all the ports with the dremel and a few hours work. Ive done 3.5 inlet ports and about 5 mins of rough up on an exhaust port. Need to get some exhaust flanges which clayton seems to be the man to get me a pair of them so i can start match porting the exhaust to manifold. The inlet manifold really sucks aswell between the lower intake and the head. Massive angle change instantly and also quite a large step. I feel as though they could have put a little more curve on that section and the stock intake would flow much better... but... im also not an engineer. So ill start match porting the intake aswell. I looked into power porting a while ago and was around 900 to have intake ported for an estimated 20-50cfm flow increase per runner and tested on the flow bench.. decent increase but an extra cost.. can always flow it later if needed without stripping engine too far!
What else. I... ordered the kelford t1 turbo 1uz cams. Bit milder than the current ones and are 264° with a 9.35mm lift. Ordered a slightly oversize alternator pulley. Ordered lots of gaskets like intake and rockers and exhaust etc etc...
Might look at getting cams and cam gears isotropically polished so these cams hopefully stay bit more resistant to rusting and pitting. Then set it all up on bench and I'll start measuring clearances for valves and order shimless buckets for it... ill add some pics later its a real pain on the phone to resize pics then find the file extension to upload

Head port wise i mainly just cleaned all the rough casting marks off but took possibly about 2mm off the walls. Used inside verniers and calipers to try my best to guarantee they were even at all the sections i could measure.
I havent done the exhaust ports yet ill have to get some exhaust flanges so i know how far to try match port the heads.
Match ported the lower manifold. Pretty damn close now. I took a fair chunk out of the choke section where it bolts onto the head port. So hopefully helps the flow enough to warrant not having to build another manifold... yet....
Tai, measurements show that with these heads are pretty damn close to stock so with a tiny skim of the head surface should be around 8.69:1 by measurements....

Also... cams are ordered from kelford.... so essentially need parts to turn up now so i can start doing measurements and getting parts together....

Sorry Andrew. Honestly lost a bit of motivation from a parts supplier screwing up all the parts i ordered and lost the roll i was on. Started organising some camping trips away with the mrs and little one whenever we can both get off work at same time. And bought a couple of not so cheap tools for work aswell
Will order some solid engine mounts and few block offs soon. Finish off the porting so i can get heads together so i can order bucketless shims etc.
