Can the smoke smell be removed from the interior?

I found a really nice TT except it has a very slight hint of cigarette smoke. I was thinking a steam clean. Will that work, has anyone been able to remove the smoke smell.

Clean the aircon filters thoroughly. You'll probably find them to be filthy. There's a tute on the forum maybe on the ALSC archive

Check also whether you have an air purifier. If you have, throw away the cartridge and consider replacing it ($155). If your A/C filters are do not come up smelling of Chanel No 5 after cleaning, then replacement cost is $98 a pair. A steam clean of the carpets might then help but you should be OK after doing the filters. My car was truly awful when I got it but filter replacement fixed it and others have the same experience.

Filters are a must. Once you've got new ones it's a 3 minute job to replace. It will also improve your air-con by 200%.

The current owner has replaced the filters.

The slight smell which remains in mostly in the roof carpet as far as I can tell.

Would a steam clean remove the remaining smell.

If not I will keep looking buy another TT.

Damian,

I would suggest a spray on odour neutraliser type product, such as commercial cleaners use, or you may even find a simmilar product on the supermarket shelf.

But don't use an odour masking type spray, as it will only last short term.

The stinky tobacco smell is usually always in the hood lining & sun visors.

Thanks guys

Decided to give that car a miss as the owner is not happy to have a mechanical inspection.

The information has been very helpful, I'm looking at 3 other soarers tomorrow, hopefully one of them will be what I'm looking for.

For what it's worth, I bought the 2 A/C filters last week from CMI Toyota in Adelaide - $90.00 for the pair.
