Basically I'm going to the US in a few months for a while and am wondering how I should leave the Soarer.
What should I do to it ie. leave it with a full tank of fuel or empty, disconnect the battery and coilpacks, buy a cover for it (It doesn't have the luxury of a garage.
Also what about when I get back should I do an oil change or what maintenance. would I do when I get Back.
I just want to know the best way to look after my car while I'm away.

Cheers Benny

wash, wax, car cover, no fuel, and park at a relatives house (preferably in a way not easy for a flatbed to get at it).

is what idd do.

Most car covers come with instructions to the effect of not leaving them on more than a couple of weeks at a time.

Most car covers are rubbish, they are thin and let through rain.

If you want to buy a car cover, make sure you get a good thick one that does not let through rain and is prone to damage done by cats and other animals that will jump on it.

Run your A/C Before leaving, because when unused for a long time the compressor can develop a shaft seal leak.

Going for around 5months

Yer my plan was to wax it, cover it over and then park it an awkward spot.
Thankyou very much for your input.

ok... well I wouldnt leave petrol sitting in a tank that long, so best to drain your tank I would think.

Boris is spot on about the cover... I would suggest spending the extra cash to get a hail protective cover and then putting a waterproof car cover over it

here's an example of a hail cover on sale in brissy:

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Car-Cover-Hail-Protection-Blanket_W0QQitemZ320494557189QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_ Car_Parts_Accessories?hash=item4a9ef6d805

Disconnect your battery for sure.

If you are keeping it insured, you will need to keep it registered as well, as there arent many polocies I know of that will cover an unregistered vehicle.

For the cost involved in prevention... it may be worth looking into what expense a storage shed is per month... it may be worth it :-)

Best thing you can do is find a relative with a spot in their garage who will drive it to work once a week for you.

One of the guys at work has a Mk 3 Supra turbo targa that his brother leaves with him for 6 months at a stretch - he brings it to work a few times a month to keep it in good running order for when his brother is in town, and stores it in his garage - been doing this for years and years now.

Its over 20 years old but looks like new, inside and out.

The only thing I'd suggest is having someone start it ever couple of weeks and maybe move it a little bit so that the car isn't sat in the same position for such an extended period of time.

Went i went to Iraq for 7 months I simply let little fuel in it (5-10 L)
Disconnected the battery and was lucky enough to park in my granny's carpark under a few blankets (to keep him warm as it gets cold in Poowoomba haha).

So yeh - i agree with trying to find a mate with garage space.

When you go to pick up your car, take some jumper leads (just in case) and drive carefully to your servo and fill up with some nice clean fuel... BOOO to draining tank !

I didnt have any start up problems
I didnt have any flat spots or tyres cracks (265/35/19s)
I didnt even have any ants nests :-)

*** Start asking your mates and their parents or whatever for some garage space, SURELY someone you know would be able to hold onto it. Swing em a case or two for their efforts.

Drain your coolant and run the fuel down. Park it on chassis stands and let a little air out of your tyres.

Leaving engine oil or transmission fluid in it should be ok, right?

5 months isn't much. Doesn't really need any special attention.

Do like Haro said and you'll be fine.

draining coolant isnt the smartest idea, without the coolant in there you have no rust inhibitor, with the fact its now damp in there its a great area for rust to start eating away at your galleries.
