G'day all,

Bad news - got our 1994 UZZ31 (4l V8) back from the mechanics yesterday, and turns out that a wheel alignment can't be done anymore because - our power steering rack is in a bad way.

Incidentally, I have a mate whom is wrecking a TT (not sure the year of his car). I'm just wondering whether i should be talking him into putting his power steering rack aside?

Or, will i need a UZZ31 specific one?

I want to get this fixed pronto, because i just bought $800- worth of Toyo tyres 10,000km ago, and i'm not in the mood to chuck them out due to tramlining and/or metal shards.

(Ironically, we bought a set of maxxis just 20,000km ago, which to my disbelief had to be replaced 10,000km ago due to baldness/lack of alignment).

Sports and luxury cars are currently wrecking a UZZ31 here in Melbourne... give them a call.

I have a UZZ31 steering rack on my TT.
Can't see why a TT rack wouldn't fit a UZZ31.

thanks for the heads up guys - she's all booked in with SLCars :-)

Next question is all about bushes!

First of all - (and i know this might sound really dumb!) - do power steering rack bushes get replaced at the same time as the rack itself? Or are they two separate jobs?

If they are separate jobs (which i think they are), then wouldn't it also make sense to try and get some steering rack bushes quickly (eg. from Andrew Vlahos is possible) and install them at the same time as the rack replacement? Can't this be done with relative ease, if the rack is being worked on anyway?

I should point out that I also bought a set of Lower Control Arm bushes, around a month ago from a wrecking soarer (they were in wonderful nick and appeared to be great value). I also want to put these in at some point, but i figured that I'd do this at a later stage (eg. when it comes time to look at new struts... as mine are starting to play up).

Sound like a plan?

TT and V8 racks are the same, you just need to swap the pipes

Large rack bush on the passengers side can be done on the car however i would definitely do the two smaller bushes *before* putting the rack in the car

You can use either Toyota bushes, Superpro urethane bushes or hard Delrin ones if youre really keen
