I know back in the day people used to put wider tires on their wheels, and now there is some trend to stretch them on wider wheels.

Anyway I was wondering. Having some 18 inch by 7.5 inch wheels is it ok to place 235/40 tires on them.

235mm is 9.25 inches. On 1010 tire they say 235's are for 8-9.5 inch wheels.

I really wouldn't want to affect the handling and or wear of the tires by placing tyres that are too wide. 235/40 18's give a good diameter of 645.16.

Compared to the stock of 205 65 15 = 647.44, I consider this a good approximate.

You'll fit those tyres to a 7.5" rim quite comfortably.

Should be fine as long as the tyres don't have extra stiffening in the sidewalls. If in doubt, check the manufacturers recommendations - always a good idea to stick within these, if for no other reason than any warranty will be void if you don't.
