I'm thinking this is a strange one. My TT's power steering pump has been leaking for about 4 years. I've simply not had any money to get it fixed so have been forced to keep topping up the power steering.
Occasionally the steering gets notchy and when I check, sure enough the level's dropped down again. A quick top up and she's fine again.
But over the past couple of weeks, the steering has suddenly gone really light. It's almost as though someone's over-inflated the tyres (which hasn't happened) but that's how it feels.
I've been punting around GYmpie, Queensland (where I live) to get quotes on getting the power steering pump sorted but so far figures of $600 (with a recon pump) or one mechanic has offered to use the re-build kit the tutorial on Soarer Central mentions and do the work for me at $80 an hour!
I've looked at the tutorial and I know it's beyond my skill level (and patience level).
Until I can find a decently priced quote in Gympie, I'll have to soldier on but this 'lightness' worries me.

Hi Ian
I sure have. He re-gassed a couple of my cars. However, I'm not sure if he's still there.
I went past his place of work two days ago and his place was deserted. I think it was one of the places that went under in the latest flood (well under I'll add) so maybe he's just waiting for it to dry out.
However, it's a good idea Ian. I'll try him again next week.
Meanwhile I'd still like to hear if others here have any idea why my steering has suddenly gone so light.

He sure is still there. You are correct, his workshop was well and truly flooded. He had moved all his equipment prior to the floods. I guess he will be back in operation next week. Give him a bell, I'm sure he can help. Your steering is a puzzle, I would have thought it would get heavy not light. Maybe all this time it was not working and suddenly it has started working. Best of luck.
