I've got no idea what mine is anymore but its like the ECU senses something wrong and just chucks the engine into an artificial rev limit, so im guessing its an ECU issue and that getting an aftermarket standalone ECU would fix it but you've got to wonder what the underlying issue is that is ticking the ECU off...

Could be the ECU, the Mines ECU I have wouldn't go over 2500rpm, got 5 capacitors changed and it is as good as new. Two had obvious leakage.

Seems Toyota found a dodgey asian dealer in China town when they bought the capacitors for their Soarers.......

They have Capacitor issues with the ECU, the Dash, etc....

At least it's a simple changeover.

Daniel, Just borrow Someone elses Ignitor or Ecu and see how it goes....

Better to try than keep spending money on it.

Have you got a Blown intake manifold gasket?

This would cause it to run overly rich as the compressed air will be getting pushed out of the leak and not into the engine. Therefor less air + more fuel = Rich and rough maybe?

DO you have adjustable cam gears? If so what are they dialled in at?

Stevens car idled Lumpy As when the cam gears were setup way wrong! After having them dialled in properly, his power curve was much better and peak power actually rose! But best of all, his idle returned to a somewhat smoother nature! Now you cant really notice his 264 Hks cams.

Daniel, Stevens crank to camshaft correspondence could have been out to begin with. Its possible they weren't installed properly, happens all the time. When installed to the factory centerlines at the crank and camshafts, aftermarket camshafts (bar 272's) should idle just fine after they run for a while..

HKS specifications recommend exhaust camshaft advance of 2 degrees, and intake camshaft advance of 2 degrees bringing the centerlines to 110/115. At this point a 1J idles like a stocker with 256's and a little lumpy with 264's.

If cams aren't installed correctly, the outcome of any camgear adjustment won't be applicable to other peoples cars where the correspondence is correct.

Another thing to consider is the crankshaft key wear some cars experience. If its is warn out it can cause issues with adjustment because of movement which causes a deviation in what the cam angle sensors pickup relative to crank position.

Just a few points to consider.

Rinaldi after hearing your car mate, the idle issue is probably nothing major (they are big cams, at factory centerlines) but the cutting out is annoying. First step would be to cure the error messages, and i think what you need is a manual ECU or mods to the auto one you're using so it stops complaining. It sounds like the factory ecu is crapping out, leaking caps etc causing intermittent spark failure or injection misfire. Need a day of diagnosis :-)

Cihan, STevens exhasut cam gear was retardded 9-10 degrees. Thats why it was hard to start and idled so lumpy. ONce it was dialled back, it started straight away and idled much smoother.
