Hey all,
After doing a search for "strange noise" and "grinding noise" i found a whole lot of threads on the power steering needing to be bled etc..
Now my problem is a little bit different and doesn't seem to me to be a power steering problem. although it doesn't have a few tell tail signs of the p/s problem.
About 2 months ago i noticed while driving the car that whenever i turned left and put down the power there would be a grinding noise and small vibration through the steering column, didn't happen when going straight or turning right... within the last couple of weeks it's started getting worse and now does it whenever i accelerate straight or turn left but is still good when i turn right.
One thing that i noticed today is sitting on a steep incline having the car in drive and foot on the brake it gets alot worse and the noise seems to be coming from lower down in the engine bay, almost near the gearbox... it stops as soon as i put it into Neutral, starts again whenever i put it into Drive or Reverse.
The best way i can describe the noise is... and this is just so you can get a picture...
a disc of some sort with teeth (like a flywheel, can gear or cog type thing) spinning and grinding away at the body of the car or some other solid bit of metal, now i know it's not hitting the body, but that's what it feels like and sounds like.
I will try the power steering flush as a process of elimination but does anyone have anymore thoughts on this?
Oh and it always happens above 1500rpm, and no matter what speed i'm going at, could be a long left bend doing 100kmph and still get grinding noise, long right bend doing 100kmph all good. Straight line doing 100 is okay unless 1. put my foot down on accelerator or 2. slightly move the steering to the left.

I've put my car up for sale but would like to get this fixed before i sell it or if i don't sell it well then it will be fixed for me.

Forgot to Mention it's a TT Soarer.
Cheers

Pete
