you can either put a factory manual ecu in it(not always easy to source), or most people simply bridge the pins in a plug that would normally be plugged into the automatic trans . Specifically, the auto trans soarer ecu needs to see that the car is either in neutral or park before it lets you start the car. So by bridging the two pins, the ECU thinks it is in Neutral, so will allow the car to start. Without this small modification, the auto soarer ECU will not start a manual converted car.
You can also bridge the park sensor on the gear shift so the car thinks it is in park, ignore the gearbox cabling and the car does not display anything were it normally displays what gear it is in.

I responded to both Blake and Jan by pm but just to summarise I will post here for others too.
I cannot contact the guy who sold me this car so have to find most things out myself. If I want to go back to the MV automatics built gearbox that came with the car that was fitted with a manual, do I need to change anything when converting back and if so how will I know which method was used to get the car going with the standard auto ecu.
If Blakes method was used, what are the wires that are bridged, number and colour? If Jan's method then what wire in the ecu is the park sensor wire and what is it bridged to?

Either way, chances are original wiring loom was butchered as most of the auto wiring loom in not used for the manual. Only the speed out from the back of the auto was used when I converted to a manual.

Not sure about twin turbo but it would probably be the same as the v8, for the v8 there is a 9 pin grey connector that connects to the auto trans. It will be cut up. Yellow and pink go to reverse switch, the two wires on the slightly stepped section will be joined to trick the ecu into thinking the car is in neutral. reversing it should be pretty straightforward.
