Hi :-)

Does anyone has a set of instructions for installing a cup holder into the dashboard cup holder slot on a 91 Soarer?

There use to be a set of instructions @
http://www.lexuspros.com/tutorial6.htm but this site is now down. One of you might have downloaded these already. If so could you be so kind as to post them to the forum.

Cheers,
Neil.

Will have a drive search this weekend Neil, I know i had one at some stage as i had one installed.
If not I'm sure people on this forum will be more than helpful.

I'll be back on monday with info.

Simon Triantafillou gave detailed instructions here:
http://soarercentral.com/alsc-forum/messages/5/11057.html
but I recall Jeff harper subsequently writing that the simplest way is to reach into the slot with a pair of pliers or a screwdriver and bust the backing plate on the old one (you do not need it) then it comes out and the new one just pushes in. That is what I did, but I can not find the original message that described it properly.

Open up your new one as if it were fitted in the dash and opened, and you should see what I mean, or if uncertain about that then do as Simon says.

Yeah thats the way i did it, the console was removed to do some other mods, so while that was there, removed the backing plate (still have it somewhere) and clicked in the cup holder.

I've bought the cup holder off Jeff Harper last year and took me awhile to installed the cup holder...

You have to remove the whole trim piece and pop out the black backing from behind. Removing the trim piece involves six screws: two located beneath the cupholder, and four beneath the gear shift cover.

- The cup holder pops out by gripping the sidewall and pulling out. You'll see the two screws under it instantly.

- To get the shift cover out, you'll have to unscrew two screws located at the base of the shift stick. Pinch the base of the shift stick and force the plastic sleeve downwards. This exposes two screws. Remove the screws and the shift stick slides right off.

- The shift cover is held in by clips too and comes out by wedging your fingers under and pulling it out. The four screws beneath it are pretty obvious from then on. Remove them.

- The trim piece is held in by plastic clips. Wedge your fingers around it and pull the trim piece free. There are wire harnesses attached behind it, but you can leave them on. reach behind and push the black backing piece through. It should pop out. Slide the cup holder unit into the slot until it clicks into place.

- Put everything back together.

On my car, and I do not condone it on others (disclaimer)

I drilled 2 holes in the blanking plate, evenly spaced, (look at the tabs on the cup holders for guidence) screwed in two long screws, held the 2 screws with 2 pliers and pulled on them like billyo!

Land in back seat, brush hair, fit new cup holder.

Thanks guys I now have it fitted. It looks good, no more unsightly hole.

Thanks to everyone for their help.

From the looks of some of the marks on the ground (above your passenger mirror), I think someone beat you to it (or could you have dropped a couple to warm up for the photo.....hmmmmm).
