Hi there. I was just wondering if any of you could identify whether this car here is really a 1998 model. Its supposedly a 1998 V8 model and it is very cheap for age/mileage.

http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/www/cars_popup.jsp?did=20949&pageid=2&originalid=&gid=nogroup&tid=7 &start=4&distance=0&adcategory=cars&channel=DEALERPAGE&id=200741296396625

However from looking at pictures on other sites something doesn't look right. I am not a current owner and don't know the various ins and outs of what was changed when. But thought the lights changed later on for a start. I'd be after a 2.5T but wondered if this would be worth a look at the price...

Thanks :-)

No. I've owned a 93 model and currently a 97 model and that one you've shown looks like my old Soarer.

Perhaps it had compliance in 97? Some dealers get confused, don't know, or try to just fool the buyer.

Thanks for confirming :-) Its dodgy then as it's on a 98 registration number. Over here it is against the law to have a plate that makes the car appear newer than it really is (although no problem with putting an older registration on). Won't bother looking at that one then.

I thought V8 production finished in '96 or '97?

UZZ31 was in production until 1997 and UZZ30 until 2000.

That is definitely a 91-93 car from the bodywork. Perhaps 98 was the year it was first brought in to the country or registered there.

All V8 for Japanese market stopped in 1997.
But the UZZ30 series was still sold as SC400 in the USA till the end of the 30 Series in 2000.
As when it stopped in Japan the updated UZZ30 got vvti and 5 speed auto.

As Colin says. Sorry about the shorthand version.

The car being a RHD it can not be a 98 model, quite apart from the early model tail lights.

Here is my profile picture showing the three different series Soarers.
The white one is series one.
The blue one is series two.
The green one is series three.

So I hope this helps you work out the differences.

It's not unheard of for the DVLA to get it wrong, or for the importer to "misunderstand" how the registration process works.

Check the chassis number here
