Hey all i have just had my car in having a roadworthy done and they have found a problem with the left hand lower ball joint. It has excessive movement and needing a raplecement the probelm being to replace the ball joint you need to replace the entire lower control arm ($1250) ex japan. does anyone have any or know of any Lower left hand control arms laying around with no movement in the joints. or is there any other options i can take

Also speak to Bill Buckle Parts for a price, as they usually bet beat Castle Hill, and as for "Ex Japan", that's CRAP!!!
I haven't found a Toyota part for ANY toyota, that isn't in stock in Sydney or MElbourne at this stage, and this is including engine parts.
You also might be best getting a 2nd opinion from a suspension specialist, I recently got my GTR checked by NRMA and they gave me a quoted repair bill of $1500 for parts, labour and repair of a front clunking noise, took it to a Pedders place, and they replaced the 2 moving rubber components, had a problem with a siezed bolt, but still got the job done under $500.

Daniel, I had the same problem and was lucky enough to get one second hand in Sydney for $250. Look in all the jap import part shops and make a post in the Want-To-Buy section but check the condition of the ball-joint and bushes before you buy. David.

Thanks for all the replies.. Castle hill Toyota were the 1st guys i rang and that was the quoted price of $1250 inc GST. Another option i have is to have the joint reconditioned has anyone had this done??

Depending on how badly the joint is worn they most certainly can be 'reconditioned.' Last time I inquired about it (a year ago now) a chap in Toowoomba would do ball joints on the lower control arms for $100 either side.

I had my lower ball joints reconditioned a little while ago through Midas in Tingalpa. I can’t remember who they used though. From memory they cost me $160 a side. Has a much better feel to it now.
