Pedders have quoted me $795 to build and fit a new steering rack (including front end wheel alignment). Apparently, Pedders own a separate company that can supply a brand new rack for me. Does this sound reasonable or is it worth trying to find a reconditioned second-hand rack? Has anybody here used a reconditioned rack before?

I have already had my spare Celsior rack rebuilt I use it as an exchange for anybody that needs one , it's down in Sydney being fitted , it came in at $560.00 for a total strip and rebuild including new rod ends and boots . If I was in your position I would look around for a cheap rack to get rebuilt and then just do a swap over , means your car is way less time off the road and you can save some money , you will always be able to sell the rack you pull out to some one else in a similar situation. As a note you really should put a kit through the P/S pump AND fit a new P/S pressure hose , do you really want 16 odd year old rubber bits going through your nice rebuilt rack !!

Haha I got my rack recoed a few years ago ($1200!!!!) and it is still going great, so no need to buy a brand new one unless it is cheap. Wish I knew about Pedders doing steering at the time, could have had the same job done for half the price and with twice the warranty.
