If only you'd got here sooner, Dave. The car's up on the hoist right now and the Tein's going in tomorrow.
The suspension has quickly dropped to the bottom of my list of concerns, on the way to the mechanic this morning I noticed a very slight whine coming from the turbos.
This is what I get from 2 whole years of problem free driving.

Well. I had a chat with my mechanic again today. Suspension went in no worries at all, even had the extra bushings he though it might not have. Now I knew I had a leak in my power steering rack, but I thought Pedders were just ticking the 'put in a new one' box rather than replacing a seal or something, turns out it's been leaking heaps and the fluid has been collecting in there and damaged heaps of bits, so that's going to get reconditioned. Can't remember the exact figures but he said under $700 to recondition, then a couple hours to reinstall it. That sounded okay to me, and cause it was so damaged I couldn't really put it off any longer.
So. Suspension - Tick Power steering - Tick
There's always something else, I need new tyres. He's got a set for me at $165 each. Seeing how this is all costing me thousands, I said "GIMME THE CHEAP ONES!" But now I'm kinda thinking if I have new steering and suspension, my limit with handling will then be the tyres. They are just a basic silica tyre, apparently they're not 'rubbish' but they're certainly not top of the line.
Is it worth forking out extra cash to get a decent set of tyres?
Also they're gonna check out my turbo whine tomorrow.

Is it worth farking out for a decent set of tyres
IN SHORT YES
Tyres are not just for show, You have a high performance car and if you intend to push it a bit now and then, then you need to know that they are going to hold both at speed and in handling. For a couple of hundred or so extra bucks don't risk it. How much is your life worth get some to suit your driving. Almost every time I get in my car I take it up to the limiter and that is the reason I will not have it de limited.

Well! After two lonely weeks, I have my car back in my driveway. The bloke that rebuilt the power steering took a few extra days off over the melbourne cup, so it's been a long wait. Anyway my car is now sporting a new Tein coilover kit, reconditioned power steering rack, 4 new tyres and a wheel alignment to top it all off.
I'm pleased with everything, except for the steering. Is it normal for it to be very stiff after a rebuild? A mate of mine said it will wear in and be back to normal soon, so I'll give it a week or so and if it hasn't improved I'll go have a chat to the mechanic.
All up cost me $3800 Which is a bit rich I think, but for the service and reputation the mob have, I think it's worth it. Plus he said any time if I want to adjust the suspension he'll pop it up on the hoist for me.
Oh and thank GOD! There's no whine coming from the turbos. I must have been hearing things.
