Hi,
I'm new here and I'm looking to purchase a 1993 Toyota Soarer. I'm located in Canada,Montreal and I've come across one that seems to fit my likings. My question is, does this car have Active suspension or air suspension?

It has TEMS, basically standard coil spring suspension but with electronically controlled damping rate on the shock absorbers. In that regard it can be called "active" but we normally use that word to describe the hydraulic system on the UZZ32 V8 model.

It could also have aftermarket Coilover suspension with the TEMS top hat just stuck back on top of the strut tower.

ohhh.. i see, how does this work?
It eletronically stiffens the shocks to give it a firmer ride. When you flick the swtich to power mode it is supposed to stiffen the suspension a bit. However it really isn't that noticable espicially in earlier models. Most people replace the TEMS with normal shock/spring combos or coilovers.

It uses a little piezo electric valve to control oil flow in the shocker, and adjusts it according to things like road speed, severity of bumps etc. Quite clever, but very different to air bags or hydraulic suspension.
