Can anyone recommend any place in sydney that is good at doing wheel alignment on soarers?

Also if you know any places to avoid that is useful too.

I am also wanting to buy new tyres so any recommendation there is useful too.

Thanks

I can't give recommendations for wheel alignment places in Sydney, I live in Brisbane, but I can suggest that you either get someone who has plenty of validated experience with Soarers or someone who understands racing suspension and who will allow you to be there with them while they do the wheel alignment. I took mine to a Fulcrum place here and they didn't let me in the workshop. I cold sense that they did not have experience with Soarer but let them go ahead, trouble was that I didn't have any piece afterwards that they had done it right. Anyway I bought new tyres recently and didn't want to take a chance so looked for someone else, eventually having a referral to a race guy who was supposed to know his stuff with performance set ups. Well he let me in the shop with him and we did it together. My rear had 2 1/2 degrees of negative camber and 10 mils of toe in, enough to destroy my new 245/18 tyres!!! It was hard to get it back near specs as when you adjust the camber link it affects the toe in link. You have to play around a lot, took 2 hours!! In the end I got 1/2 degree of negative camber and the proper 4 mils of toe in shared between the 2 sides evenly. He said that you need that little bit more neg camber on the left (he have me 1 degree neg) than in the right, cause you turn right more (he gave me 1/2 degree neg) and he gave me 2 mil toe with the wide 235/18s believing that this would give me better life out of my rubber. Caster was 3 1/2 on the left and 3 on the right. If I go back after a couple of thousand kilos he will feel my tyres and adjust it needed. He doubts that any adjustment will be needed. ($130). About the tires: I just bought some new Rotallas out of China in ebay and am so impressed with how sticky they are. The tread pattern looks great like a Yokahama and they have a wear factor of 340 (very high for performance tyres). If I would have bought 235/18s all round it would have only been $300 plus fitting but I went for 245s on the back so it was $450 plus fitting. How do you beat that? Time will tell. They are rated at 250 klm/hour too. I know you are in Sydney but if anyone in Brisbane wants the suspension guys details just let me know. For the tyres look up Rotalla on Ebay and look for the best price. Mine came out of Melbourne. Cheers John

Depending on were you are located, Sydenham Hesselman steering and suspension or in Parramatta Brooks tyres, both of them are good with wheel alignment.

Just wanted to give a recommendation for Rational Automotive.

Unit 5, 122 Long Street
Smithfield
0401 817 000
Before Hours, After Hours, Weekends OK - bookings essential

I decided to check it out after seeing this post:

"has the latest gen machine.
his machine can properly do cars with bodykits, low lips or Slammed Cars
(apparently, the units placed on each wheel need to read/sense the unit on the opposite side, which is impossible to if you have a bodykit etc etc.)

gives you a printout of BEFORE, AFTER & MANUFACTURER SPECS on a single sheet.
have your car aligned to Your specs or Factory specs."

He did my soarer recently and heres my review I posted on another forum :

Just wanted to give a one up to Rat aka Rational Automotive. Most places are all still closed and Rat happened to be open when i decided to drive by! Went for a 4 wheel alignment. All the gear he uses is new and we did managed to get my car on the machine after some effort (soarers have a ridiculously long front overhang so my front lip still scraped even though he has done lower than mine)

Did a before and after drive to check how everything was all the whilst being very courteous, with complimentary drinks on offer. Took the time to take me through each item on the printout and explain what each of the numbers meant and how it affects the way the car drives, also took me through the process of each step he was doing. Competitively priced. Possibly by far the best customer service I have received in any automotive workshop before...I left very impressed.

On a side note for soarer owners, he has had alot of experience with his friend's soarer and I could see he was comfortable dealing with the chassis - which makes it less a scary thing handing your keys over to someone (which I think it always is when doing these things).

and from another user :

really really tks to Rat (Rational Automotive) did the alignment on my Odyssey. call him on 3:30pm and explain my situation to see if able to assist, then he replied saying better to the alignment asap then slot me in. from strathfield to smithfield normally abt 30 mins drive but the bloody M4 congestion took me almost 50 mins to arrive which was abt 4:30pm already. Rat take his time to explain everything in detail and also asking what i want for the car. then he starts off to set the equipments and check 4 times, yes 4 times on and off from the car, when getting my car onto the hoist making sure no scratching or touch anything. take his time on each corner when adjusting and cross checking, by that time i'm feeling bad on arriving late.... anyways, left at around 7:00pm with the car handles 100 times better which make me even happier. tks a lot again Rat and Peaking Duck's recommendation, much appreciated!!

And best of all after hours / weekends ok! Pretty much impossible to find a mechanic willing to work outside of 9-5 these days (that know our cars anyway)

Good guy and very honest. He takes the time to look and fix the problem. I recommend him for mechanical repairs as well, he is comfortable working on Soarers and knows them well. Very competent mechanic.
