Can anyone tell me where to start? I just got a front end alignment 2 weeks ago and drove it to Adelaide no problems. Came to drive it back and it had developed drastic understeer, I had to drive it in that dangerous state for 1000km. Is it something that can just start like that?

Yep. Your suspension camber bolts may have not been tightened properly, and one of them could have slipped.

If this gave you significant toe in for example, the car would be more understeery.

Otherwise if an upper contol arm nut (on the long bolt on the front UCA mouts) has rattled loose, your upper arm could have slipped forwards or back and this will drastically change you Castor.

If a traction rod at the rear has slipped you will also have drastic to in/out changes.

The tyre pressures were the first thing I checked, and power steering fluid.

Yeah I think you may be right Dan, should have checked that too, but I'm going to take it back and see if they did something wrong before I let them talk me into new tyres again...

Replaced the front tyres, fixed the cornering a lot but I can still feel movement in the steering, I've probably worn out the steering rack, is it best to get them reco'd or whats the best solution?

Thanks Dave, thats what it was, but I can only see 1 rubber bush that could be the problem. Struggled to get a jack and ramps under there. Tested the nut and it was tight, so bush is gone. Thank you Adelaide, amazing what a short trip can do.

Been quoted about $120 for the 2 driver's side bushes; is that about right? I should be able to do the work myself!

Darren there are two the other one is lower, when you are turning the wheel the is rack moving first with worn out mounts ,then when you exit the corner the rack will center itself , a feeling of not being connected any more.

The rack moves a lot when someone else moves the wheel, explained a lot, but I would have thought the tyre guys would have seen it when they put new tyres on and aligned it for the third time this year. Anyway I will order them and fit myself, is there a certain torque for these nuts?

If your remove the air intake and alternator you can get to the top one, front one is easy.
Peters car on Planet Soarer is a 4 wheel steer 32 so it looks even harder.
