I've got this regular squeak coming from somewhere behind the dash/rear engine bay whilst the engine is running. At first I thought I had a baby bird trapped inside. Now I think it could be coming from the ABS booster pump. It's there whether moving or stopped but seems to be more regular when using the brakes. Would I be right or could it be from something else. Whatever it is, how serious is it and how to fix?}}
Dave, if you have TRAC (Traction Control) then you also have an electric pump for the brake booster. These sometimes get noisy, but usually it's more of a vibration than a squeak.
The pump motor is just in front of the driver against the firewall in the engine bay, and operates as needed to keep pressure up, so usually comes on for a short burst at startup, then comes on while the brakes are in use.
You could put your hand on it and feel it working while a mate pushes the brake pedal (ignition on), and see if the motor working coincides with the squeaking.
The pump isn't on all the time though, so possibly doesn't fit your description unless maybe there is a leak somewhere.

It sounds like it's from a piston type mechanism ie something going up and down slowly as there's two different squeak noises. Not sure how the booster pump works but I assume it's of the positive displacement type.
