My VW Passat daily driver while the Soarer is off the road is a pos so I'm looking to buy a Celsior off my friends brother but it has a few issues that I am looking to fix up. One of which is bad fuel vapour smell in the cab. It gets really bad if the car is left to sit but driving with windows down doesn't seem to get rid of it.

Does anyone some definitive answers to this issue? Searching all over the net doesn't reveal anything specific. Also would this damage the (cloth) interior?

I would be more worried about your health as a petrol sniffer, and whether the car might catch fire.

Sounds like a significant leak probably in the front half of the car allowing the fumes to get sucked into the cab. Opening the windows lets them out, but more enter, so you don't notice the difference.

check the fuel neck to the tank for any leaks.

You can also remove the neck and check that the "non return flapper" at the bottom is ok.

Yeah what I've found on the interwebs points to front half leak = fuel smell while driving and fuel tank/filler leak = fuel smell while sitting. I'm going to assume this car probably has both issues.

Considering the car is 4 hours away I don't really want to drive it all that way back in it's current state. Sounds like there are too many variables to just quickly fix the old girl before heading off. Thanks for the info guys, I'll give this car a miss.
