I have a cruise control that semi works on my v8 soarer. It does somewhat automatically hold speed but barely. It is very jerky and keeps accelerating and letting go of the throttle and accelerates back up again trying to maintain the speed. Any ideas why this is happening and what I should do?

It is v likely your speed sensor on the trans is faulty, which causes the intermittent erratic signals that are confusing the cruise control unit- it tries to compensate. this happened to me . very easy to replace.

Hi Peter, I followed the "For New Soarer Owners" as soon as I bought the car and I adjusted the cruise control and throttle cables which was good as there was a fair amount of play in the cables. It helped improve the throttle cables significantly but it only improved the cruise control by a little bit. Blake, how did you go about diagnosing the speed sensor on the trans and replacing it?
At present if I go on a 90km/hr road and put it in cruise control when it is 4'th gear. It takes over but it keeps accelerating and letting go of the throttle and accelerates back up again until the transmission has enough then it just stays in 3rd gear and it gets even more rough.

Hold the throttle dead still as you cruise. If the speedo fluctuates instead of staying constant, then my diagnosis is correct. I put the car on a hoist, undid the one bolt that holds the sensor in, then put in a 2nd hand one. Job done. Cruise control worked as per factory again.

Yep the speedo definitely fluctuates. Thanks for that, ill get around to getting a speed sensor from a wreck soon. Hopefully that should fix everything.
