I have used this site many times to do common fixes and other little modifications and with this particular problem i can't find a solution to.
The engine is running cold (showing just above cold on the temp gauge) and i have replaced the thermostat and rubber seal with no luck. I even checked the old one for leakage and the saucepan trick to see what temp it was opening (80 deg)
Then thought it could be the coolant temp sensor, so i changed that with no luck.
It is definitely running cold and the fuel consumption has got bad. I can't see anywhere it could be by passing.
It all started when i reverse flushed the heater core as it stopped letting out heat. That fixed the heater problem and now here I am.

not sure if it can cause your problem, but did you bleed the air out of the system thru the bolt on top near the thermostat?
you need to run the engine with the bolt out , and keep filling thru the hole, until full, them screw it in a couple of turns and keep engine running until a continous stream of water is coming out, then tighten.
