Hey All
Ive been here in Australia for about 8 weeks now and today for the first time i have seen rain, well any that didnt dry up on landing. I have just grabbed my keys from the kitchen table and rushed outside because i have been desperate to drive my SC in the wet! Oh my.....how frightening this is! Were Toyota losing the plot when they decided to make traction control an extra on these? Am i right on that? Lucky mine has that option because i think i may not have her come winter time. Even with the TRC on she still has a little go before being snapped back. Perhaps they should have made an exception with these and called it TTRC (Try Traction Control).
I cant believe some of you wont have this luxury as i do and i dare say you have some stories to tell. Finally here is some candy for you all wet, notice the headlamps that didnt need to be oven baked on low for 20 minutes just a good old polish on the outside with some ArmorAll as recommended by you good guys!

yeah mate, its been hot here, cause of summer, but come 1st of march summer is officially over, so no more HOTNESS and hot engines... but more slippery weather, which is scary.. it was wet not long ago, and i was at the traffic lights turning right, they went green, i didnt even go fast, and my tyres gave way and the car spun about 90 degrees in the middle of the road

i had to reverse and get back facing the RIGHT way, it was embarassing rather than scary, but it was due to wet weather and alot of oil on the road, tyres were fine.. :-)

i noticed you had trouble parking on the driveway? haha! lovely car mate

Jai and Ty spot on, I have slipped out many a time in my jzz31 NA soarer, and the single turbo is worse. Have to really go easy

Soarers are very predictable when they do let go though, even the TT's I've driven in the rain have been pretty controllable when the rear steps out.

Was driving down a main stretch of road yesterday and put my foot down (my V8 ISN'T supercharged right now, in the process of collecting funds for new project) and I put my foot down ever so slightly and it still just went sideways, sideways, sideways :-) hahaha Gotta love RWD cars with big V8s!!! But Matt is right, very controllable even for someone such as myself who is used to my AWD Celica GT-4. Don't know what the hell is gonna happen when I'm putting somewhere in the vicinity of 350rwkws to the road in the wet!

I don't think there has been two days without rain since I got my Soarer in January. We've had metres of rain in Cairns already this year. Had some fun times now that I'm getting used to the car. There is a uphill left hander in my neighbourhood that is always in the shade so in the wet it is mossy and slippery. Starting to get a nice low speed slide going on there occasionally.
I was just talking to a mechanic mate about putting traction control on the car last night. There is a soarer wreck in town which has it. I was going to try a search to see if there is any info on swapping TRC from 91 TT to 93 TT but if anyone knows about this please let me know.

Rain always makes me wish my Soarer was silver, not Wine Red Mica, as its such a bad colour for showing roadsplash.

Retrofitting TRC would be a huge, expensive job I would think. Probably easier/cheaper to sell up and get a G-Spec TT with it already fitted.

Apparently because I already have ABS its only a matter of wiring the unit to the ECU, but I wouldn't really have a clue. Was hoping someone had done it. Huge and expensive is out of the question. Will have to just make do with the old method of lifting the right foot.

The TRC system has the (electric) brake booster and ABS all incorporated into a single unit.

Non-TRC has a vacuum booster and then the ABS is on the other side of the firewall.

Throttle bodies etc are also different, so it's not a simple job.
