have purchased a 1991 v8 4 litre limited soarer just this week. The drive home from the dealer was fine other than minor sounds coming from the shocks when going over bumps(is this to be expected with a second hand soarer?). Then being the 4.0 litre v8 as it is it was time to fill up my baby for the first time. The dealer had told my brother to fill the car up with normal unleaded because it was a 14 year old engine. Though me being the stubborn person i am filled the car with a half tank of bp optimax (hearing that all import cars run on a higher octane gas and thinking if it runs well on normal unleaded it should run great on bp ultimate). the car ran fine on the 5 minute drive home from the gas station and ran fine early the next morning for about half an hour into the drive into work. After that i felt a jerkiness in the cars acceleration once on the way into work. I didnt know what to think of it and hoped it was just a one time thing. On the drive home from work it continued to happen more frequently, and would have periods where the car would run fine then jerk again on acceleration and just before coming to a stop on slowing down. Am racking my brains as to what would have caused this problem. Could it be that the car needs to run on normal unleaded? or is it more likely to be the shocks? Am in desperate need for advice, and i hope i was not an unlucky person jipped on a car sale

mate keep running your car on premium unleaded, also give the car a service or just change the spark plugs. if there is a noise going over bumps a bit of a clunking noise, bushes are warn and will need replacing at some stage but not right away. but best person to talk to about your problem would be neil griffiths so drop him an email see what light he can she on your problem.

The V8's run fine on Optimax, Ultimate etc. that's all I put in mine, so unless you got a bad batch of fuel I don't think that's the prob.
My Soarer had a similar symptom when I replaced the airbox with a pod filter used to be a bit jerky etc. And was good sometimes, bad other times. Is it modified at all?
Also, when you want it serviced, go to Niall Bond of Bond Auto Tech, no. 3/2 Hale Street (the bottom of the street) in Botany. Phone 9666 6384. He's da man in Sydney.

as far as i know the car has been kept in stock condition and no modifications what-so-ever. Thanks for the contacts. My brother has asked a few friends from work and they have said to him that because i let the fuel level get to a low level (the red fuel light came on) all the crap in the bottom of my tank was put through the car which wouldn't normally happened when the car is full of petrol and will pass eventually. Could this also be a likely cause? Will be booking for a service ASAP and if worse comes to worse will have to bring it back to the dealer for a repair. Thanks for the help
You have misfires, the jerking is the crap spark its getting. the dealer probably hosed down your engine to make sure it was "clean" when you get it. change your plugs/leads and always use optimax/ultimate. if you still insist in taking that stupid dealers suggestion. it would be harmless to do a full tank of unleaded, feel the crap power you get out of it and the economy. then do the optimax/ultimate and you will never go back to that 92 crap again.
Never believe what a dealer tells ya. Their intention is to sell you the car at the end of the day.
Take your car to Niall, get your bushes checked out. They usually squeak when the car is cold and worn.

Edwin, firstly a warm welcome to the forum .
Now that we've got the formalities out of the way, may I STRONGLY suggest that you take the Soarer back to the dealer, and TELL him to fix it to your satisfaction at NO COST to yourself.
Secondly, BEFORE you go spending wads of cash, as Duy said, it's quite possible that you have water ingress in the spark-plug cavities.
The same thing happened when we purchased our UZZ30. The muppet car groomer had "Cleaned" the engine bay, followed by a good hosing down with water (idiot!). The end result was a 7 cyl.Soarer Grrrrrr!, rather than let the previously mentioned MUPPET's try to fix it, I did it myself. Removed the plug valley cover thingy's, found numbers 3 & 4 spark plugs on the LH Bank (When facing the engine) were doing a passable impression of submerged crustations!!. I removed the plug leads to the 2 submerged items, then blew out the water with a handy air hose nearly drowning myself in the process Haha. Then sprayed CRC 2/26 down the holes, followed by another blow out for good luck, reinstalled leads, fired her up, and voila INSTANT 8 cylinder smoothness, with nary a miss.

thanks for all the advice and then warm welcome to soarer central. Will check all spark plugs first thing in the morning!!!!!!! was planning to take it to a mechanic on the weekend so if no water is found in the spark plugs then i will have no option other than get a quote from a mechanic and bring the quote into the dealer and demand he pay for repairs thanks again everyone! will keep you all posted! would i cause any damage to run the car while this is happening? i left the car at home today while i went to work and my eager brother saw an oppertunity to take the beast into work!!!
