Don't laugh everybody. I just put a new shifter in my soarer and now I can't get the key to the lock position. Are these things linked and how do I get the keys out.

Could be one of the fuses near your right foot area when in the driving position.(kick panel)

I scrolled through the diagnostic. Would it show up if the fuse was blown

Might not be locating into Park properly. Push the Shifter HARD forward to be sure. (mine does that all the time)

Adjust shifter from under car..12mm nut secures it in a sliding groove on the selector rod to the gearbox..

If you disconnect the battery the key will come out. Obviously not a long term fix, though.

Guys,
What have I done, I have tried talking nicely, yelling at my pride and joy with no success. The dash indicator shows that it is in park but it won't give me the keys. The screen stays on which means that the battery may go dead and I can't lock the car. It just feels like it is something simple but I can't figure it out

Kick it. It won't help, but it'll make you feel better. It may help to go for a short drive and try again.

Dan,
Thanks she released her grip and I got the keys out. As soon as I tried again the same thing happened. Is it a mechanic job or do you think a short drive may help.

Yeah, As Graham said it could be a blown fuse, A linkage out of adjustment, It could be a loose wire on the back of the ign switch. Sounds like one of those curleys that could take hours to find and 6 seconds to fix.

Whoa there, it is not a fuse !

You installed a new shifter, correct ?

Ok well you have not installed it properly, you need to re-adjust the height of the shifter. When you install it you need to get it just right or the key will not come out of the ignition...

Go back and loosen the shifter a bit and then re-adjust it until you can select all gears and put it into park. Tighten it and try to remove the key. Keep doing this until you can, it's a very fiddly job and you have to be spot on for it to work. It might help to have another person there with you to lend a hand.

Easiest way:
Adjust until you can select all gears.

Put it in Park with the key in the ignition. Adjust again until you can remove the key.

Tighten the screws a bit (so the lever moves up and down but tight).

Start the car and make sure you can select all gears.

Remember to keep your foot on the brake.

Tighten the rest of the way (quite tight, otherwise it goes loose again).
I just finished adjusting mine again after it got loose.

Benny,
Thanks for the info I was getting quite worried, I will try it again after work. Did you put one of the extra sleeves on the shaft to help keep it tight.
Kerry.

Nope, just the black one. I also removed the original cover (the one that attaches to the bottom of the original gear stick).
It's just in the way and makes it difficult to install. I sold it with my original gear stick.

The Levoc easily gets a bit loose if you don't tighten the screws enough but don't overtighten them.

EDIT: What extra sleeves? Mine only came with the black one.
I didn't use anything out of the extra bag with the two inserts. I think that's for the Nissan. Or do you mean something else?

Benny,
I think there were 3 extra sleeves, a long black one which is very flexible and 2 quite rigid ones. I think the instructions say that you should cut the sleeve to fit if you don't remove the bottom sleeve.
Kerry.

I used the black outer one only, cut to fit with a Stanley knife (razorblade knife). Make sure you make it long enough (I think I made mine 5cm (or 5mm longer than if you use the bottom sleeve) but I don't remember.
I did not use the original bottom sleeve.

The two sleeves are inner ones and I don't think they will fit over the Soarer internals.

If you look at the pictures you will see that those two inner sleeves are only used with the Nissan install.
