Hi Guys,

Many moons ago, I was told that with Sunroof maintenance, you need to keep the runner clean, the glass clean, but also need to lubricate the rubbers every 6 months or so to keep them moist and lush so they dont dry out and start to crack.

I am just wondering what other people here use to lubricate the rubbers on their sunroof, as mine's starting to show signs of the rubber getting a little old, and I rather do the preventative maintenance than the replacement of rubber seals later.

Thanks,

B.

Dry lube might do the job.

Silicon spray seems to be quite popular, and yes, also a good idea to give the doors, boot, and bonnet a small spray, and rub it in, just to re-nourish the rubbers and stop them from pittering.

I am doing some research into proper maintenance of sunroof's, and I will do up an article in relation to this, and post here.

If the article is worth anything, then we can move it to the articles that are already done :-)

I think thats a brilliant idea Brian, always good to put up new stuff under general maintenance as these cars are very fragile

I have found some articles for other vehicles, such as jeeps, and land rovers, but I will also have a chat to Toyota and see what they suggest, and then get some form of article written up (I will even include pretty pictures as well).

As a forum member, if I can provide anything that helps even a few members, then it wasn't a waste of time.

Be careful with the silicon spray, don't get it on your paintwork or you will have problems if you ever do a respray.

Jeff,

Too late for that, but some advise I do have is that if your going to spray silicon spray around the car willy-nilly, you should give the car a proper waxing first.

And wash the car clean before the silicon gets a chance to bond into the paint.

I used silicon spray a bit on my window seal rubber and it would go on my previous paint work which had cracks everywhere and was fading, the silicon spray actually made it look better lol.

Ive since had my car resprayed black and had no troubles? what troubles was i supose to be expecting Jeff?

Shane, Silicon usually seaps deep into the paintwork, if you get to much in 1 area, then it will soak through, and when you go to respray, you usually dont get a proper bond between the paint and the panel.

Although, if you snad back properly, and do the right prep work on a re-spray, you shouldn't end up seeing a problem with the paint.

I had a nice sole decide to put brake fluid on a friends car, we got to it about 3 weeks later when they returned form overseas, and he was due for a re-spray anyway...

Took it back to my cousion's place, and sanded it back to almost metal, then did the under-spray, prep coats, underlay, and then the normal spray in his chosen colour, and then clear-coated the car, and it looked fantastic.

Hello Brian have you had a chance to write up a "how to" for sunroof maintenance?
