hmmm...

interesting topic, im pretty sure that this could go on and on and on for ever if people could be bothered.

I used to always use Caltex Vortex Gold 96 then onto 98 when that arrived (cos i used to work at a Caltex)

I personally like shell's V-Power 98 sold up here in QLD i have been gettin great mileage from using it as opposed to using other fuels....

it all comes out of the same hole people and to be totally honest i think its all a bit of a wank anyways about who uses what and whats better and blah blah blah..

like Duy said...

Shane told me his knock readin on his power fc was HIGHER with BP ultimate compared to 98 V power shell fuel!

Weird... I get far less knock these days with Ultimate. I guess fuel is different than WA (I assume you mean that Shane).
Back when I used Optimax, I'd get near 60 on the FC knock meter. I get around 12-20 on Ultimate.

Nope Wrong Shane....Its Me.

Ive always used BP Ultimate and Shell Optimax/V-power, In my circumstances the BP Ultimate gave me slightly better fuel economy but started to notice i have a problem with knocking on my Power FC. So i ran a couple more tanks of BP Ultimate to see if it was a bad batch, but continued to get very high knock well over 80 and into the 120s when it got really bad.

So switched back to Shell which i hadnt used in quite some time, i dont think i had even used the Shell V-Power and there was a considerable difference in Knock, still above 60 but wasnt no where near as bad as the BP Ulitmate.

Took it to the tuners and got it all looked at and data logged so found why it was happening. Defiently wasnt because of the fuels. As the datalog showed it was happening on gear changes and narrowed it back down to vibration with axle tramp etc.

So after this i ran Shell V-Power Racing 100 octane fuel, and found abit better performance and again knock was better.

Ive switch back to Shell V-Power 98octane and am getting great fuel economy for my car and decent power.

So as Duy said each car/engine/tune will react slightly different to each Fuel availble.

Just look at Daniel, all his 1/4mile times are basically on Shell fuel with octane booster.

BTW on the dyno with Shell V-Power 98 the knock was below 15 with a dyno figure at 239.3rwkw. Pulled 247rwkw with 45knock. Tuner wasnt happy with that much knock so took it back to 239.3rwkw and less then 15 Knock.

My car on the same dyno 2 weeks apart...

Shell 98 + octane booster = 220.8rwkw @ 15.9psi
Shell 100 + octane booster = 224rwkw at 15psi.

I will have my car dynoed sometime in the next few weeks to see how its going now with the dumps and new cat and hopefully get a higher boost rwhp figure:-)

I can tell on BP unltimate, i can hear the car detonate on the street at higher boost compared to the shell 100. Add the octane booster into it and bingo. More leway.

Horses for courses then.

One of my best runs was 383kW with knock of 12 on Ultimate :-)

Daniel that variation is too little to put down to the fuel, dynos will give different results like that even if you had made no changes at all

Unless thats the point you were trying to make! :-)
