Belt is squealing on my V8 for a few minutes after start up. Switching off the aircon stops the squealing. Does this need a belt change or just adjustment? Is it something urgent or can it wait until next service?

Could be the tensioner spring or a bearing on the way out. Belt shouldnt stretch, so as long as its not cracking it shouldnt need replacing. Try putting a breaker bar on the tensioner nut and see how much force it takes to shift the tensioner - it should take quite a push.

My serpentine belt has been making a slight noise for ages, when the A/C is on first thing in the morning.
I just run a bit of dry soap across the belt every few months and it's fine....but probably should really replace it.
Does look to be in very good condition though....might be the tensioner. Meh..

There are marks on the tensioner to show how far the belt has streched ( YES they DO stretch )

If they get to noisy..REPLACE it..only option..As the more lube you put on it..the less drive goes to the Cooling Fan ( V8 ) pump..and the Water Pump ( TT )

Does it make a difference whether it's replaced with a lexus one (That I have been quoted $200 for) or one from repco for $60?

Bwaaa!? $200! $60! Last time I got one for a 1UZFE - admittedly at cost from a friend in the industry it was $40 or so in Kiwimoney - geniune Toyota. Hell even the one I just got for my 2JZGE direct from Toyota was only $40.

Often the ones that Repco supply come from the same factory that Toyota source theirs from (as Toyota aren't in the business of making drive belts)

So.. If one was to go down to their local repco store for a V8 tensioner what part number would I ask for?

My cheap 2nd hand replacement has started to squeak and theres no way I can have that!

MIke, if its just the bearing you need, if it's the same size as the 1JZ/2JZ then you can use a holden pulley.

Either that or pull it off, press the old bearing out, and get it matched at a bearing supplier like Neil suggests.

I did the bearing about a month ago, its the tensioner as when WD40 or something similar is sprayed in to the joins it stops for a few days. Also you can see it jiggling about so its obviously a tried spring.

Are these only available through Toyota new?

As far as I know yes you'll have to get one from Toyota, or a second hand one.
