ok...i'm at the stage where i've degreased my engine block in prparation for painting it, but i've still got all the gasket crap left around the top of the bores on the face of the block. i've also got carbon rings on the top of the inside of most/all of my cylinders. i want to scrub both away, but my toilet brush & degreaser combo isnt tough enough to get rid of it.
how hard can i scrub the face of the block and the insides of the cyclinders? can i use steel wool, or a very light wet/dry sandpaper? i dont want to scratch the face or the bores, but i want them clean.

have you tried using petrol to clean it up. degreaser works better when the item your trying to degrease is warm or hot and the letting the degreaser sit for 5-10 mins before removing the degreaser.

cheers guys!
now i just gotta decide on what colour to spray the engine block....was thinking black, but thats a little boring....was possibly thinking like a gunmetal gray, with some gold kinda just flecked/speckled over the top (my soarer is gold)...just gonna do it with the high-temp spray paint you find at most automotive places (repco, etc)
