Hey fellas I'm having troubles with my car at the moment and I believe the culprit lies with the fuel pump ecu.
It's intermittently faulty, i.e sometimes it'll work perfectly for say a
week, and then the next thing you know, it takes 10 turns of the key
to get it going, & no amount of revs you give it work, it just stalls.
Given what I've read, I'm inclined to think it's the fuel pump ecu. I have read that you can try Bridging FP and B+ in the diagnostics port using a paper clip.

Have also read these threads
http://soarercentral.com/sc-forum/messages/51875/264081.html

http://soarercentral.com/sc-forum/messages/282/301325.html?1256360131

I've got a new fuel pump ecu sourced curtsy of a kind member on these forums, and we'll install it this week.

Just wondering, could it be anything else that is plaguing my car and causing it to stall?

Hey

I have this same problem , but generally mine only does it when my car has been running just before and is still walm ,
when my turbos worked fine , it didn't do it , but I think I blew a valve seal and she blew smoke , that's wen it starting doing it , I am sure it can't be related but can't be sure

Have you found the problem and/or fix as I still have this problem ??

G'day Josh.

I believe it's the fuel pump ecu that's causing it to stall, it did run perfectly today though and I expected it to stall at least once.

Getting a new one wednesday, will let you know if that solves the problem. I need the car to be good as I'm touring round Tasmania in it next week!

To update, it started stalling pretty bad this evening when I wanted to go to the shops. Bridged FB & B with a paper clip & this stopped it. Whether or not it would have worked the next time I turned the key who knows. Hope new fuel pump ecu solves the problem

Will be keen to hear a followup to this, James. I've had the same problem, determined it's the fuel pump ECU, but haven't yet made time to order a replacement.

Yeah , wow , keep me informed ! Cause mines not doing too much , but when it does it's just annoying !

Tell me how it goes , and if the fuel ecu works I will try a new one myself

Cheers

Yeah guys, as you both know it's pretty annoying when it does it. I'll let you both know how things go when it gets chucked in. Fingers crossed this solves the problem.

Question - are the tt and v8 fuel pump ecu's the same or not?

Just an update. Hasn't stalled since the new ecu went in, so it would appear that it was the culprit!

Glad to hear you got it all fixed James. I'm still working on getting my central locking fixed (intermittent unlock)once that is out of the way i'll move onto the exhaust set up :-)

Thanks David. The unlock issue sounds annoying - what needs to be replaced. Exhaust setup is good fun, I like the fact that when i'm cruising there's no drone then when you give it some, you can hear it!

well i had it booked in at a auto electrician, took him all of about 10 minutes to find that my passenger door handle has something in it broken (i cant remember exactly what it was lol) $200 to fix that... not sure if it will totally clear up the random unlocking problem as it will unlock at completely random times, some times i can go 3 days without it unlocking itself some times it attempts to unlock itself 10 times in 5 minutes (even when it already is unlocked) we shall see. Anyways, yeh you have me excited to get this exhaust system (Neil if your reading this have a pair waiting haha)

guys, just FYI, Toyota came back to me to say the correct part number is 89570-24010, and also a price that I'd prefer to avoid paying for the moment.

What sort of price have members here paid for one of these?

Around $100 second hand.
Seen them in Parts For Sale from about $80 plus post.

Plenty of soarers being parted out at the moment too. Shouldn't be too hard to come by.

Thanks, Gary, I've started making enquiries online here in NZ.

FWIW, a top guy I know at Toyota says RRP is $800 which I'm sure even they would concede is mental. I've accepted that is the way of things for brand new parts, and only rarely do we get a chance to get a truly good deal on new parts, like I did for my Supra brake upgrade.

Mark , it seems to me that the guys at Toyota NZ aren't giving the discounts like they used to.
2 years ago a fuel pump Ecu was $650 + GST, I bought it on my account for $250 + GST.
I'm sure Neil has them or check out Castlehill.
You could also try peterkittletoyota.com.au.
Yep Mr T is tightening his purse strings.

thanks, Evan. I have sourced one from some guys in Christchurch, via Trademe, only just today. Should have it by next week.

Certainly I have had the same impression as you - RnB Toyota for example have been busy selling brand hew high value parts on Trademe for a good 18 months now. Good for them, it gets some new parts back into circulation, and off the warehouse shelves.

I got one from a kind and generous member here. I suppose you've just got to keep looking in the for sale section when a car is being parted. You shouldn't pay $650, or even $250 that's all I can say.

Mine is installed and appears to have fixed the problem completely :-) Will give it a few more weeks before I am 100% positive.
