I've seen the 90915-YZZD2 listed for the 1jz. Is it the same filter or what? If it's the same I'll just buy a box of of 10 seeing I can both Chaser and Soarer with them.
I know these are the sub par Thailand made filter. Don't want to pay $50 for a TRD filter.

I was using z418 on both cars but I was told that it's too small for the v8 can cause issues. So I switched to genuine. I velieve the z68 is what I should use for the v8. Its bigger like the Toyota OEM.

As has been said they are the same, may not have always been the case ?? the thing that amazes me besides the TRD ones you can actually get a Toyota Genuine filter same as the ones here as in D2 series that we use, but are actually made in Japan & for the Japanese market only !! I inquired about getting some but it works out at over $30 each landed here, I think the TRD ones were only an extra couple of dollars & ended up getting neither, as Scott said the ones we get here are made in Thailand, but it would seem they are not good enough for the Japanese market but good enough for us dumb Aussies who don't know any better ??

I've heard that the TRD filter is the made in Japan filter. A few times I've tried getting the original Japanese filter and I've order it and payed for it but when it got my door it was the Thailand one.

I'm sure the TRD one is made in Japan too, but this other filter is a Jap Toyota Filter which is only available in Japan & i'm sure its the same number as our ones & from what I have been told its actually Made in Japan & its not a fancy TRD one, from memory I was told our local made in Thailand Toyota filter's filter to 7 microns & the Jap Toyota filters filter down to 5 microns & I think the TRD ones filter down to 3 microns, so there's certainly a difference between all 3 of them ..
Scott did you order yours through a local Toyota dealer here & how much did you pay for it & did the Dealer say at the time of the order that it was a made in Japan one ..

I ordered I think castle hill Toyota and another i can't remember maybe Kudos. Both times I was told I was getting the Japan filter and the Thailand one rocked up. I was told the TRD one is the Jap market one for the Aussies. Even if it is better it's just too overpriced for a filter.

K&N filters, Mobil 1 Filters, purolator are all good from reviews. I have used Donaldson filters before, seem like really good quality, a lot heavier than the Ryco for example, would definitely use again,

What cross reference part number do you use Brett. I feel the Z418 is not the right choice given Toyota OEM is bigger. I don't want to use less then what Toyota specifies for anything on my car. I use Redline oil for example. Probably overkill but I get it for a decent price and my engine loves it.

Scott, you really have to look at the actual filter area, the size of the filter casing is somewhat irrelevant, usually they are bigger or smaller depending in room in engine bay etc.having said that, the toyota filter possibly has greater filter area, but I know many larger filters in other brands don't.
I always use the z418, or equivalent. Run that in three different cars, actually considering buying a bulk lot of filters due to cost nowadays.

I use 10w40 I usually buy a box so enough to do both cars. Last couple of services I used penrite in the 1uz (1jz always gets fully synthetic). I noticed that the engine is a bit noiser on penrite when cold. So I will drop the oil and put redline back into it. I plan to do oil analysis to see how it stands up.

Hey Scott, yes I agree on the Toyota TRD etc being over priced hence why I didn't buy either version once I found out how much they wanted for them ..
Did they end up forcing you to pay for those filters that came in for you as to me if they are just the Thailand made ones I would have been putting up an argument to not pay or get a refund ..

Nah I didn't Robert. I just really needed a filter. Do you think I'm better off using Ryco over the Thailand made Toyota filters? I've found on eBay $100 for 10 of them. Cheaper then Ryco.

I tell you oil to avoid- Torco. I got it on special a couple months back and now needed it. As I poured it all this oil fatty build up came out. Lucky the funnel I use has a filter on it. Never seen anything like it. Horrible

Hi Scott, wow that some weird coming out of that oil bottle, no doubt you have drained it out of your motor too ..
As far as the filters go I personally use Toyota filters on my 1UZ & 1JZ motors, there not that cheap as you know but you would hope as they are endorsed by Toyota they would be as good as Toyota can get built for the money ?? i would dearly love to get my hands on the Japan built filters if they exist & it was priced similar to the Thailand ones ..
I must admit I often use Ryco oil filters for other engines though, but i would be wary of ebay etc as you know there can be some cheap clones out there of lots of things & why not filters ?? ..

It didn't make it into the motor but I didn't want to take any chances with the oil. Think it must have gone bad. The smell was a bit odd too. When I drained it the oil looked clean. I let it sit for another 10 minutes and put redline 10w40 in it. Yeah maybe not worth the risk from eBay.

On the topic of oil filters, has anyone tried the Ryco Platnium oil filter? It looks like a good thing. Part number Z418HE I'm considering it for my next oil change. $18.90 delivered through eBay or $18.95 at Supercheap Auto.
