I was looking at the BFI 1 - 2 and 3 designs and thinking about the egg cup design (BFI3). I have done a search and everyone seems pretty keen on the BFI3. However, wouldn't Opening up the air box entirely (BFI1 and 2) to get the maximum amount of air to flow through the filter be a better option?
In BFI3 you loose some of the opening just for aesthetic reasons. What is the point of using the egg cups to make it look good if you have a panel to close it off at the top?
If you don't close it off then there is hot air from the engine bay entering the air box so wouldn't BFI1 or 2 be better?
I understand the moulding of the new snorkel is better in BFI3 but I'm just a little confused as to which is the best path to take, thanks for your help

I think the idea is that the egg cups flow as much air as you will get in the scoop anyway so why make it look like a hack job underneath the cover when the egg cup trumpets look pretty good (to anyone who lifts the cover)?

I did the egg cup BFI a little while ago. It raised my boost so much that it blew the pipe of the throttle intake!!
It also looks much better than just hacking the front off, creates a venturi effect to tunnel the air through the filter and looks freaking pro!!!

Gotcha...maybe material costs, the hours labour, time testing etc, wear on tools, cost of driving around finding the original cups (this style is hard to find) would add up...but yes it could be unreasonable in some people eyes/pockets. I'm not trying to make a profit, just covering my butt. Everything I'm selling is well below what wreckers will ask. Make some up and see what they owe you.
