Kris, Yes, you can change the water pump without changing the timing belt, but i'd put a new belt on it while your there. Otherwise you'll be doing it all again in another 60K rather than another 100K. A new timing belt will cost you about $60. The labour to replace about $600. Shame you didn't read the threads about changing water pumps at the same time as timing belts, and vis versa. Water Pumps are available from any Toyota dealer or Neil Griffiths.

What is the best way to remove the bolt that is behind the back timing belt cover? it is the last one to remove before i can get the pump out and head off to toyota for a new pump

What the? I never had to remove any of the cam gears. Kris, Take a bunch of pics if you can so a procedure can be written. I didn't own a digital camera when i did mine unfortunately.

I don't doubt Neil's advice. Its been a 60,000km since i did my timing belt and water pump. Can't remember having to take the cam pulleys off, but maybe i did.

I have taken my waterpumps off both engines and the cam gears are still on the cams. The pump is bolted to the block by 6 bolts.

Probably not, but he probably means it's easier with the gears off.

Pics did not turn out well at all taking the cam gears off helped in the removing of the water pump made it so much easier. I am more than happy to give details on what needs to be done in the remove and refit of the water pump though. easy job but takes a long time

Why not just rebuild the pump with new seals etc? Save yourself a fortune.

Branden; Mate you do one and then let me know if it fails(leaks) and then see how much work it is to do the Job all over again. also mate if you have to pay some one to do the job then it would turn out being about the same price if not more
