thats what i was thinking so i googled and came up to his first post on ls1 forums which included a link to his photobucket. He was pretty respectful and nice in his posts so i can't really hold any grudges for his character. I couldn't figure out his actual modifications (if any) for the car without spending *some* time looking so i gave up Oh i know he's changed his suspension (both from looking at it and) because he's got a pic on the pedders site. |

groboz wrote on some time in the past, last year, x: 0 -100 km/h (96.5 actually) = 5.21 seconds 80 - 120 km/h = 3.7 seconds Results were consistent 1.27s with a new PB lap time of 1.27.2453.
To be fair after reading 8 pages he seemed like a pretty alright bloke for a commy driver haha. He takes advice well, respectful and sounds like he's doing it for fun. Can't really be too angry at a guy who's enjoying what he does for fun. Edit: plus i give him respect for posting this openly on a forum http://s669.photobucket.com/albums/vv52/groboz/?action=view¤t=Ohshit.flv with the subtitle "Ran out of talent" haha |

| Hey, I don't hate the bloke! I didn't even get worked up enough to go looking for his pit bay. I was more annoyed about not bettering my own lap time. Each time we went out I checked the lap times of the guys around me, so I knew who I had to get out of the way for, and how much gap I needed to leave from the guy in front of me to ensure I never caught him. Getting held up was frustrating, but as much my fault as anyones. I should have realised and just got out of it on the first fast lap to open a gap. It is part and parcel of lapsprints. There is no opportunity to overtake, except on the straight unless you get waived through. Plus it was the only interesting video I made on the day. I'll have to go look at those links now... |

| Just looking at those supra pics- man that is a steep angle for a rear diffuser. There are some who think my 12 degree upsweep is too much on a sedan/coupe shape and it would be more effective at 7 degrees. His must be between 30 and 40 degrees. Can't seem to get the third URL to work. |

| You need smooth for aerodynamics. The sharp angle in that diffuser will just cause air separation and significantly reduce the effect of the diffuser. |

I like your attitude too Though the few commy drivers i have met generally have been pretty difficult to get along with and pretty pigheaded about the whole ford holden thing. Thats why i was kind of shocked about his general attitude. Half the reason I got a soarer was to try and stay away from those kinds of people, and the supra/skyline/180sx kinds too. If you know what i mean |

| Haha Aiden- funny thing is I am a Holden supporter in the V8's and for some reason it transfers across to my perceptions of cars on the road as well. I'll concede that through history there are plenty of nice fords, and the current batch are pretty good lookers, but for some reason, I'm a Holden supporter. Same with Nissan. The main reason I don't desire a Nissan is the fact they are bloody everywhere. Same with WRX's. In fact I was looking for a WRX to replace the Rx-7 when I saw a black 'Lexus' at the practice the missus was working, talked to the doctor and then had one imported (for waaaaay more than they cost now!!) Andrew, that is stunning! I have downloaded the Sports sedans regulations and have been having a good look at them. My next move is to replace the door windows with 3mm lexan, and perhaps the side windows as well. Not so sure about the rear window at this stage. I am then going to tear into the front bar and see what I can create out of it. |

| I picked up a sheet of 3mm Lexan today for $150. It has the 'double UV protection'. I might have a go at replacing the windows this weekend. |

| Replaced the passenger window with lexan today. From a single 2400x1200 sheet I should be able to get both windows, the rear quarters, and the rear windscreen cut out. The difference between the window(4.3kg) and lexan replacement(1.2kg) is 3.1kg. Removing the window mechanism was another 1.1kg, so each side will end up being a 4.2kg saving. I am going to see how the lexan goes with the power windows. If I can get them to work fine, I'll keep the power window on the drivers side. Otherwise I need to find another method of getting it up and down. I ended up putting in three little ally tabs to secure the top of the window on the passenger side after watching the video of the High octane GTR flapping around.
I am looking at removing this side intrusion bar, but don't know how to go about it. It is attached at each end, and silasticed to the outside skin as well.

| Yeah, funny how they assigned me the exact same number as I was borrowing from you. Of all the combinations available...at least there is some continuity in my photos. Hopefully it isn't taken down south. Update: I did the drivers window today. I clamped the lexan to the glass and tried to shape it using a heat gun. I got it hot enough to hurt your skin, but it didn't seem to hold the curve. In the door frame it works with the power windows, but because it isn't curved enough does not engage in the 'track' at the top of the frame. It can be guided by hand from outside, and looks like factory fitment, but doesn't quite work . I'll spend some brain energy on it and find a solution sometime down the track. |

| Cheers Dan, looks like you might be right. I found a free PDF on working with Lexan, written by GEStructural products the company who makes Lexan. For most types of forming you need to get the temperature up to around 150 deg C. I might try 'drape forming' the rear quarter glass as they should fit in the kitchen oven (hope the missus doesn't read this!) Need a bloody big oven for the rear and side windows though. Might have to dig up an old bar heater and see how hot I can get things. The trick will be getting an even heat. The mind boggles at the injuries I could do with a big heater...! |

| Hahahah. The oven is fan forced. I havent measured it up yet, but I might be able to get the side quarter glass windows in there. There isn't a need, really, but now my curiousity is piqued and I want to try it. I'd love to find an oven to fit all the windows in. Maybe some type of fabrication joint would have one. I might have to give the Lexan supplier a call and see if they can do something. The other option is looking around to see if I can hire industrial type heaters. Not much of a demand for them up here I guess... |

| Got bored tonight so I cut the front bumper up. The aim is to get more air into the radiator and coolers. I am going to have to take the bumper off to reposition the oil coolers and make up all the ducting, but this will give an idea of where I am heading. I need to find something to form the air dam, as the garden edging is no tall enough now the rubber lip has been removed.

| I went out to Bunnings today and bought some wider garden edge. I redid the air dam and I am much happier with it. The plastic is fairly easy to work with, using a hot air gun and a bending brake.
I The pulled the front bar off and moved the oil cooler forwards and started boxing everything up for better control of the air flow. It has got me thinking about brake ducting as well now...

| Most pottery places will have a large kiln/oven out the back which are typically under-utilised and would easily hold 150°C for as long as you need. The big walk in units would give you the option to easily work with the heated material, possibly more than once. |

| Well, I am getting close to finishing the front bar. The coolers are all ducted and boxed in. The radiator opening is enlarged. There is more front splitter available to generate downforce, and the intercooler is ducted to the radiator. The headlights are only sitting in location and there are a few bolts left to do up, and I am toying with the idea of plumbing in some ducting for the front brakes, but essentially I am done. Next is to go back and tackle the rear and quarter windows. After I clean the bloody shed!

| Will you be able to get it off the ramps with all that on the front end now? Get a big cardboard box, big enough to hold the windows or windscreen, and use more cardboard to run a duct into it from your fan-forced oven (with the oven door open). It'll take a little while, but the oven will heat the inside of the box up enough for what you want to do. |

Funny you should say that. No. Apparently not. It isn't any lower, but must sit a few mm further forward than before. I packed the ramps with wood and stuff, but it still snagged. I just give it a nudge and it came off. I think it is time to build my own ramps.

Have you done this? I'd be concerned the lot would catch fire... I 'gutted' the passenger door today. I was going to measure up the side windows but got sidetracked. I made a door card out of 5mm coreflute sheet. ($8 from bunnings)
I managed to save 9.5kg on the passenger door. Window replacement - 3.1kg Window winder mech - 1.2kg Superfluous steel - 1.0kg Side intrusion bar - 2.6kg Door mirror - 1.6kg Of course I need to fit a replacement mirror but I imagine a motor bike mirror or similar won't weigh too much. |

Yep, we've done it. Used it as a big autoclave type oven and got it up to about 190-degrees. Of course, you should still keep an eye on it, and because it is in the kitchen make sure the wife is at work the day you do it. |
