| Dyno update: was on the rollers yesterday arvo. Spent a lot of today on the rollers as well. Simon is chasing some sort of idling issue, don't have any more details but hope to have it back in the shed tomorrow maybe. In the meantime I have re-adjusted the job sheet and decided to start on the spare shell. I have started prepping the rear guards to become the plug for a mould. Little time consuming things like mending any imperfections, creating a straight edge on the wheel arch, and adding 2mm to all the edges to allow for the thickness of carbon and a little shrinkage, so hopefully the new guards fit over the existing skeleton neatly. |

| Got the car back from Morpowa today. Simon had a big smile on his face- it now makes 303rwkw on pump e85, a healthy 66rwkw jump on the same turbos (was 237rwkw on 98 pump.)
I have spent my time sorting out the right rear guard on the spare shell. I am going to make a new panel out of carbon or 'glass to finally replace the bent up one.

| Total result Ben, you cracked the 300dy. That should be enough to smash your lap records. Did you have to replace the fuel lines up to the rail? I here E85 will melt anything accept Teflon or metal. |

| Yeah Kurt, 20 psi. Pretty happy with the power number Andrew, but as you know the only numbers that count are lap times. There is very little rubber left in the system, and I think it is all on the return line. I will keep an eye on it and replace it with something better if needed. I have a bit of Teflon braided hose left over, but something using the pushlock or hose clamp system would be much cheaper than 200 series speedflow fittings. I have decided I need to have the moulds for at least the front two guards, and the right rear guard completed by the end of the week so I can make them the following week ready for the practice day at the start of August. |

| Kurt from memory Ben's motor is stock internals unopened. Large FMIC, Dump pipe, 3 " exhaust, Larger injectors and fuel system, Munro Performance Hiflow Factory twin turbo's and a Haltech PS1000 computer. Very simple combo |

| Paul's pretty much got it. Stock unopened 1JZ, high flowed CT12As, dodgy dump pipe, and home made 3 inch straight through exhaust. On the induction side it has a Just Jap (apexi copy) intercooler, and a HKS pod filter in a box (however this will be put back to a modified stock airbox soon). Fuelling is e85 via Bosch ID1000 injectors (1000cc) all controlled by a Haltech Platinum Sport 2000 computer. There are all the other bits to make that work, such as the fuel rail, FPR, boost T, so on and so forth, but the main contributors are above. |

| Congrats mate that's great news . Glad to see you went the ID1000 injectors and e85 . Regardless of total power , e85 will take more timing so should have more torque across the board ! That in itself will help out of corners and lap times should tumble . Is that with the factory intake pipes ? |

| Thanks Daniel. Between you lot and Simon at Morpowa I didn't have much choice, LOL. The factory pipes are all still on there, no mods except polishing the outside for bling. |

| That's great! You haven't got ported manifolds?? Be great to see how it would go with a set of twin intake's and hot pipes with some porting of the outlets to match the new size of the hotties the same as i did with Tony Nguyens set up! |

| Kurt, I may go down that path in the future. At the moment my focus is on getting enough body work done so I can drive it. I mean, I drove it once with 240rwkw. Only once, and that was a year ago. And if I remember, I hated the day so much I came home and cut holes in the thing. Between work, family, and a house I have not driven this car anywhere near as much as when it was mostly stock. I want to get back to Mallala and put some laps in as at the moment it gets driven less than an Auto Salon car. Plus, I just spent a lot of money. I saved up for this round of mods for over a year. It is time to stop spending my own money, get the car on the track and then enter some events. Then see what happens. |

| I hear you Ben! It would have cost a bit swapping all the lines for e85. Great work by the way! Should be a different car out on the track. But the only thing is you have got me wanting a set of munro high flows now! would love to try them out with my 6.5 inch dump and soon to have 4 inch exhaust. Now where do I get one of them money tree's!! |

| I had forgotten how bad fibreglass stinks! Been busy the last few days prepping, flanging and gel coating the right rear quarter panel on the spare shell. The first gel coat wasn't thick enough for my liking (I reckon there might be a bit of mould sanding and polishing required after watching the PVA go on the panel!). Have lost 2-3 hours as I have put a second gel coat on and now have to wait for that to go hard. Will post some pics later. Might go fit those Ikeya LCAs to the race car. |

Hopefully it cures OK overnight. I will leave the heat lamp on it until I go to bed tonight. I need to make the final two flanged parts of the mould tomorrow, then I will leave it sit over the weekend before demoulding. I will get stuck into finishing work on the front guards, and will likely make moulds of them on Monday or Tuesday next week. I need to have the guards on the car by Friday. |

You might recall that young Ben Socratous (spelling?) passed out while working on fibreglass a year or so ago. |

Huh? No I didn't hear about it. I wear a respirator when I am working in enclosed spaces, and at the moment I am in the garage with the roller door up and the prep area is actually outside. I like to try and provide a good example to my boys. (I even wear ear muffs mowing the lawn!) I have a load of carbon and epoxy for the actual parts, and the good news is that the epoxies I have are less hazardous, and well and truly less stinky. Also I will be vacuum infusing the moulds, meaning almost no exposure to the epoxy resin at all. I will take it as a timely reminder though. Yesterday I forgot to put the mask on for one lot of gel coat and the headache came on pretty quick. I had to stop and grab the respirator. Might be time to buy new filters- next bunnings trip. |

| make sure you keep the charcoal filter in a sealed plastic bag, better double bagged, when not using it overnight. the activated charcoal does "fill up" and become ineffective, but in the bag it runs out of things to absorb so lasts longer. what you are mostly breathing is styrene fumes. nasty stuff, but should not kill you in the short term. we occasionally had some chlorine gas blowing in from the factory next door, when mixed with the styrene fumes, would knock you about like no ones business. you should also look into a bit of accelerant in the resin as well as catalyst if it is a bit cool. if your resin is a winter mix (depends on when you bought it, how long it was on the shelf etc) it should already have some in it. I love the flanging on the plug, shows some skill and planning that. how are you going to stiffen the mould? cheers michael |

Hadn't thought of that. I might buy new ones- they are reasonably cheap from Bunnings etc. I was considering not putting any bracing on the mould as I will use it once and throw it away. (I simply cannot keep all these moulds lying around). The flanges are quite wide, and the shape of them should give good rigidity up and down the panel, but I guess it could do with some bracing lengthwise. Might just glass some scrap timber down the length- two of them to act as a stand. The resin was bought winter last year, and has some accelerant in it. Plus I am using the heat lamp once everything is in place. Seems to be working OK so far. |
