| Had real work keep me away from the car most of today, but I did manage to fit the new poly bushes to the steering rack. To be honest the old ones actually didn't look that bad. They will go into the spare parts box in case the red car needs 'em. |

| you could just cut some fine stainless mesh to fit around the pickup and level sensor (if still in use) and sandwitch it between the upper and lower pan I used some of this on my 1UZ wagon and had no issues... |

| ...also I noticed the cams seem to of been installed dry, make sure you get some molybdenum disulphide assembly lube and go ape with it on anything that rubs before you start it! |

Which means you need to pull all the main and big end caps off and get the moly in there as well. No point in replacing a motor with a spun bearing with a motor that will spin a bearing on start up. cheers michael |

| That assembly lube is great stuff. Just like playing with sweetened, condensed milk. I also have a spare satchel of some trick camshaft lube left over from Kelford Cams. Would easily be enough to do your whole set of cams with it. PM me a mailing address if you want it. |

| The builder has most probably used engine oil on all of the rotating assemble as on advise from my engine machinist(c & b automotive) one of the best engine places in Sydney, told me not to use the lube unless the engine was going to sit for a long period of time. He said normal engine oil is better as the red stuff gunks up and doesn't desolve ever. Maybe check how long the engine has been sitting, but I would simply squirt oil over the cams & the sump will give the crank a good bath. |

| assembly lube is great for assembly but generally only for bearings and such... when I rebuilt my engine I just drowned it in oil before I started it. I didn't worry about cylinders and such as my oil pressure built up really quickly (a couple of seconds of cranking at most)... It helped that my oil pump was in pristine condition (we were pretty amazed) despite the engine not having been rebuilt before; sometimes you get lucky i guess. |

| It has oil in it. Well, it has some oil in it. It leaked a lot out of the oil level sender unit hole which was blocked off with cloth and tape for the transit. I guess his builder did the oil trick. I'll have a think about it. Not getting any time in the shed to do much at all. |

| Where do you buy that Molybond HE50 Allan? The cams have a thin film of oil on them, and there is oil in the sump. I would give the cams etc a spray if I can find something easily enough. There is a similar Comp Cams type product on ebay, as well as a Torco item as well. |

Not here they don't. Every time I walk into a Repco shop it reinforces my view that you must be a flat brim fag to work there. Or that it is essential that your knowledge of cars extends from the classics (VB commorodre) to the modern (VL commy bro). I am going to try and send the missus to Blackwoods tomorrow. |

| Been a while. Work has been ridiculous. I have taken today off to try and get the engine back in the car, so I can use my garage as a garage. I have a question: What are the three bolts on the ATI damper (below) for? They were loose in the thing, and do not seem to serve a purpose. (they simply bolt through the damper).

| Cool. That is what I was hoping. I ended up getting Blackwoods to order some of that HE50 spray in for me, and Aaron has given me some other molybdenum assembly lube. Some has gone into the oil pump, and the top end got a spray of the HE50. Spent the morning checking the torque on just about everything I can get to without completely disassembling the engine. The only thing loose were those three bolts, and the stuff I have added myself. The motor has been turned over by hand so there is oil in the filter and throughout the motor. I seem to have misplaced one of the OEM turbo cold pipe metal gaskets. This is incredibly frustrating. I spent an hour turning the garage upside down looking for it, then got distracted and ended up degreasing and cleaning the gearbox. Now I have decided to drop the oil in that and replace it whilst it is out so I need to go out in this miserable weather and buy some 'box oil. Is it any wonder it takes us backyarders so long to get things done...? |

| I think I might have to check the gearbox oil more frequently. This is all that came out of it. How I haven't had a problem with the box is beyond me. It had no oil in it.
Engine and box almost ready to go back in the car.
The gear box mounts are a bit worn, with partial tears in the rubber. About to head onto ebay to see if I can get a replacement. I had planned to bolt the box to the motor and put the lot in as one unit. This might delay me a bit. |

| They looked all right Jeff. I'll have a better look at the next opportunity. I have been thinking about both a diff and transmission cooler for some time now. I am starting to get a collection of coolers I can pick from as I chase better engine cooling. It fell off the to do list when I switched from doing 15 minute sessions to the time attack/supersprint format of about 3 full on laps each run. The lack of oil is my fault, I cannot remember the last time I checked it. I used to have a good little pre and post track day routine/check list I followed. Time to get some discipline back I think. That said, the oil gad to get out of the box somehow. A good hard look through the inspection plates will need to be added to the post track check list. I don't have the time to pull the gearbox apart. It has taken way to long to get the engine into the car. I gave it a flush with new oil, and will have to keep an eye on it. Call it a calculated risk. The next session will be a gentle run in for the engine anyway, and I am already planning to drop the engine oil a few times, so I will do the gear box as well. I have spare turbos and exhaust manifolds in the shed. Porting is definitely on the cards some time in the next decade. |
