That is impressive mate. Does your diff have oil in it? I'm just saying...

Yes the diff has oil in it. And the gearbox does too, now. I know this because I started the car with the gearbox filler plug out and found the gearbox was capable of spitting out it's oil at a rapid rate. Another 3L of bloody oil then went in and the filler plug replaced. I don't think my gearbox actually likes the taste of oil... Looks like a 90% chance of rain for Goulburn on Monday. Better antifog and rainx the windows.

| More pics. I think I am ready to roll. I am both nervous, and excited.
I think a 1:06 might be a bit ambitious. |

I still say High 1.06, you've got half the weight more power and it was resurfaced since you were last there ;)

I say I hope it all holds together. Initially I am going to finish running the motor in. Then get comfortable in the car again. Running a time is not on the agenda. If it turns out the car is fast, the so be it. I am heading up at 7, so I should be there about 8ish. The weather doesn't look great, with a 90% chance of rain. Running a time might be out of my hands.

The day started poorly. I flattened the battery trying to get it started, while it was still on the trailer. So, I tried roll starting it in reverse off the trailer. Almost started. Finally unhitched the X-trail from the trailer and jump started it. And it was raining. Apart from that the car ran almost faultlessly, with only a couple of loose wires and a vac line popping off causing some temporary worry. There were two dry sessions for my group. I ran a bunch of laps around 1:12 in the first dry session, and figured I needed some outside help. Geoff, the Circuit Club driving instructor jumped in for the second dry session and we cut the lap time down to 1:09.4. Geoff is well over 6 feet tall and weighs 100kg or so. So, I added 100kg to the car and went 3 seconds faster! He got out and I ran a 1:09.2. Geoff suggested I run a softer rear sway bar as he thinks the car needs more squat. On return to the pits, I discovered the shock settings were all over the place. One front was full soft, one front was full hard, and the rears were not much better. You get 100% of what you check, and I never checked them. Later I ran 1:14 in the wet, before going off a couple of times and giving the splitter and bar a hard time. They will need some attention, as do the pads, which are on their last legs. A bit of maintenance, some new pads and I should be right to go gain. But man my shoulders are sore. I am not race car fit. Sooo out of practice. Post up the pics Aaron. I threw some on face book.

Doesn't need more squat if your drifting mate!! Have you tried just steering through a corner in the conventional style? It looks good through turn 1. We should all chip in and buy Aaron a bigger lens for his camera. Getting a inside rear wheel off the ground into turn 2 is very Improved Production-ish. Geoff may be onto something... Unlucky there weren't more dry laps to get it sorted, and sorry I didn't make it down there. Not sorry you didn't do a 1.06 though. It would have raised the bar somewhat. |

Ben was definitely having some fun! She was pretty loose coming onto the main straight trying to accelerate he done well to keep it straight with some tail end looseness when changing gears. Makes me worry about my rear swaybar now as I converted to a jza80 setup as stiffer.. I may have to find a stock supra swaybar later on if I get the same troubles. And dont worry Andrew a larger lens is on the cards one day, too many lens choices and prety pricey for a decent one so I will be doing some research into what will be best at the time. Currently only the twin lens pack with 60d with max lens being 55-270mm, looking at either an l series 75-300mm or 100-400mm, should then be able to get decent pics of cars coming over the top and back down while still being on the pit wall. As you have probably noticed I have been trying my best to avoid as much as possible so I can stop spending and finish paying that snap on toolbox out so I can be debt free and stop losing money on interest (tax money shhhoouuuulllldd have it sorted). But will hopefully be out there this year atleast haha With the engine tuned and ran in and some clear track with good weather Ben should come very close to them times I would say Andrew

I am considering going to stiffer front springs due to the fact the front splitter looks like someone took to the underside of it with a belt sander. It is clearly bottoming out, and had started to do this at Mallala also. I am assuming the higher friction rated brake pads(Intima Type D), combined with the substantial increase in power have combined to cause or at least highlight this issue. I believe I have 16kg/mm front springs in at the moment. Ottomoto have both 17k/mm and 18kg/mm springs on their site for $140 plus $35 freight. I am thinking of getting the 18s and seeing how they go. The intima pads are also on their last legs. I am torn between getting more Intimas, or trying something else. Paul has recommended winmax, which are a great deal more expensive than the Intimas at around $280 for the W6 fronts to suit the JZA80 4 pots. This weekend I'll get the car back to the garage and give it the once over, drain the engine oil and change the filter etc. And check the pesky gearbox has oil still.

Back when i got my HSD's they came with 18's in the front. If anything they feel a little soft to me but the front of my car is a fair bit heavier than yours so it'd probably suit yours better.

I'm running Ferodo Racing pads on mine, the DS3000: http://www.ferodoracing.com/products/car-racing/racing-brake-pads/ http://www.ferodoracing.com/products/car-racing/racing-brake-pads/ds3000/ I wanted to run Pagid pads, but they were a bit pricey at the time. With how much the Soarer weighs, they might be worth the investment though: http://www.bsmsport.com.au/brake_pads/pagid.php

And it took me a while to find the details after losing my entire lot of technical data for the car when my HDD imploded, but my springs are 18kg/mm front and only 8kg/mm rear (thankfully I keep every scrap piece of paper with stuff written on it). I reckon the front of mine could go a bit stiffer, but with the speed it currently runs it hasn't been too bad and we've added a bit by upping the damper rates. When it gets quicker we will probably have to invest in bigger springs though.

Andrew, how do you like the DS3000? I really liked the DS2500 back in the day, they were fine for both road and track - for me at least. I loved how they would pull the car up just as well no matter how hot they got, and Mallala gets pads really hot.

I've been happy with the DS3000 pads so far. They seem to pull the car up nicely and so far they haven't gotten too hot (which is probably an indication that I need to go faster). I suffered a bit of brake fade in the last race we did, but I don't think it was the pads causing the problem. Had we bled the brakes that weekend then I don't think the fade would have happened, but we didn't and that was the result.

I have ordered the 18kg/mm springs. Should be here in a week. I am looking at the front bar, not real sure of how to patch it up. Most of the damage is underneath, but the mount on the top right (near wheel arch) is a mess too. This would be from my dukes of hazard effort over the kerb at the top of the hill. I am trying to decide on a temporary fix, which will probably be ugly, or do something permanent like making a new splitter separate from the bumper, which will take a long time. Andrew, still looking for some brake pads. I have an old set with some decent meat left on them. I haven't found the DS3000 to suit the Supra 4 pots. Paul has put me onto Winmax, and I am waiting to hear back about their availability. I could always try and chase down some more of the Intima Type D, but I would probably have to pay retail now, at $330 a set of fronts...

I got the car up on stands tonight and pulled the brake pads. There was less than 1mm on all four front pads. Rears are OK. I have ordered some Winmax W5 pads fro the front to try something different. Also pulled the front coilovers ready to receive the new springs. Sadly I managed to strip one adjuster doing it. I'll email Ottomoto and see if they can sell me a replacement. Otherwise the shock can be adjusted via an allen key, you just don't get the 'clicks'. Also on the bad news front, there is a lot of oil down the transmission tunnel. I'll need to get in there and figure out where that is coming from, but I am guessing the gearbox. I have been looking for an exploded drawing/parts reference for the R154 to figure out what seals might be leaking.
