| Just curious, how did you work out the cuts in the pipe? |

| A cutting wheel, texta and a file. I drew a line on the first pipe at what looked to be a straight line with my eyeball, then cut out the section. Then I slid it over the other pipe and drew a line on it and cut that out.. Worked out pretty well. |

| Just a thought, the stainless steel BBQ lids would be very close to that size, has the lipped edges on them as well. |

| Started working on the airbox which has been a pod filter stuck inside a hacked out stock unit for the last few years. I like the stock paper air filter and the look of the stock box, but getting the outlet to the turbo requires some more hacking.. I'll let the pictures do the talking..
The aluminium section is a form for an internal mold of carbon fiber. |

| I also had an issue with the turbo water lines being too close to the turbine housing heat and making the rubber hard and brittle even though they were wrapped in fire-sleeve. Luckily caught it before it completely let go.. I replaced them both with stainless braided teflon hose and compression flange hydraulic fittings instead of the standard threaded for extra clearance and improved the routing. |

| Thanks Blake, it's been good to get a few things done that I've been thinking about for so long.. I finished off the air box today and added a little bit of bling to the engine bay by replacing the 3 inch aluminium intake with a +10 HP spec carbon one.

You are a genuine Soarer guru and Thanks for sharing your work with us here on SC . Thanks Chayton . |

| Hi Roland, I kept the mould, so if anyone needs something similar made they are welcome to use it. Wow, thank you Chayton for the kind words Mike, scrolling back through tells me I got it on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 lol. The only issue I had is that I ordered a black manual version and got an automatic one. So I sent it back and after a lots of emails and quite a while later I got a polished alloy manual one.. Close enough I guess. I had no issues with fitment whatsoever. |

| Not a very visually exciting update, but more of a interesting technical one. I purchased a front left steering knuckle assembly ($50 delivered!) from an ABS equipped soarer to utilise the in-built reluctor to allow me to run the slip based traction control in the Haltech. Out with the old
The wiring sits nicely on the top control arm out of the way.
It looks to be about a 40 tooth / revolution wheel, so plenty of resolution. More than the drive from the gearbox which seems to be 4 / revolution, but the 4:1 differential takes it to around 16 at the wheel. The software allows to to calibrate the 'pulses per kilometer' for each sensor. Initially the front wheel was showing an impressive 958km/h on the highway
When enabled the ECU compares the front and rear wheel speeds and will allow the rears to turn faster than the front until you achieve your desired slip percentage. It will then pull timing and boost duty to control the slip, and feed both back in again over time.
Next up is installing a factory switch somewhere to enable and disable it. |

haha yeah customer service is pretty crap, but that looks like the one I designed when I worked from them, the original full alloy one was pretty crap. This was one of the design 3D graphics, looks the same.

| Yep, that looks very familiar minus the fluid lines at the bottom.. Interesting side note regarding the radiator, the stock NEW 82 degree thermostat does not really pass any fluid until the coolant temp is about 92 degrees. At this point I was able to feel the bottom radiator hose get hot. I let the car idle up to 100 degrees and then put the thermofans on full speed and it came down to 85 degrees in about 20 seconds and then back up to 92 as the thermostat closed again.. About 20-30% fan speed can keep the car riding on the thermostat (92ish) while idling. |

Front and rear wheel speed following within a few % of each other with the occasional spike from cornering. |

| So are you sourcing the rear wheel speed input for the ECU from the speed sensor on the trans? |

| Yes, the vehicle (rear wheel) speed is from the transmission. But I has to assign it as a 'rear wheel' for the traction control to be enabled. Stupid really, but ultimately no difference. |

| Very interesting Tai. I wonder whether I should implement this on mine... Hmmm. How do you find the slip based traction control? Does it work as advertised? Cheers. Jason |

| Hey Jason! I haven't tested it yet, I will let you know how it goes. For $50 I thought it would be worth playing with. I think it will work well in conjunction with the boost per gear. How's yours going? |

| I had a bit of a play today Jason. First gear comparison with traction on/off.
You can see the huge RPM flare up to 7800 and the rear wheel (yellow) speed increase vs the blue RPM and blue rear wheel (TRC on) The front / actual speed seems almost exactly the same tho! Very surprising.. I will play with the slip % and aggressiveness to see if it changes, but it felt faster and more controlled for sure. Here are some more comparisons

| Mine has gone through another few rounds of upgrades; currently its getting tuned after replacing the LS Spec intercooler with an R Spec 100mm monster. Upgraded to MCA Reds, Battery was relocated to the rear and some stickier tyres. Still going strong. The Traction Control is definitely interesting but I am currently not running boost by gear. Is it a better boost setup? |
